S9 working or not

Post by Marke » Sun Feb 06, 2011 1:52 pm

This may be a dumb question
but for the last 3 to 5 weeks my ahi has been 0 as well as my
apnea indes and hypopnea index. When I download my data
all the numbers are fantastic. On the graphs I see that my pressure does go up and down
during the night as well as it is recording the time usage snore index, etc.
But because there is no apneas will the software not bring up an apnea flow chart?
Can I really have stopped having apneas, Am I that comfortable and well adjusted
now that It can only be better and better.
I am getting 7 plus hours on average per night and am coming up on
1 year on therapy, but I went to the forma mask in early november and have had the best
results by far since I started therapy (was using liberty mask prior).
I am thrilled at the data but I still feel that I have not gotten back my (and I'm guessing)
30 plus years of sleep dept. As I stared thread at the top Is it possible that machine is not picking up apneas
and not working or Am I on the road to better and better days?

Thank you,
Marke

I would love to assure you that you are on the road to complete control of all factors osa related, but honestly you need to take that machine to your dme. I suspect you have a machine problem.

There was another thread on this recently. I think someone fixed their machine of reporting 0 apneas by unplugging their machine and then plugging it back in to reboot the on board computer.

You may legitimately have 0 AHI, in which case the graph will not show up in Rescan. But, I have had it happen once where I had AHI of 0.0 for a week and didn't think it was true because it only has ever happened for a night every so often. Unplugging the machine put the data back to normal for me, so I would try that.

I frequently get 0.1 AHIs reported, and a number of nights it's been 0.0. However the next night it's usually something higher. If you're getting a number of nights with 0.0, I'd wonder, too. However a zero night here and there might be an indication that you're in the groove.

I unplugged the machine for 3 hrs yesterday then plugged
it back in last night to let it reboot as discussed
Had 7 hrs of sleep and my ahi this morning was 0.1
I will download data tonight to see actual numbers.

Depending upon what machine you were using before the S9, you may legitimately be doing that much better. This is how I tested my machine to make sure it was actually capable of measuring what it says it's supposed to measure:

In the morning just before you normally turn off your machine (or at night just after you normally turn on your machine), hold your breath for more than 10 seconds. Try holding your breath the first time with an open airway, then hold your breath with a closed airway. If you do it in the morning, make sure not to pull your card out of the slot for at least two minutes after you pushed the power button to turn it off. Go to the bathroom or start the coffee. (This will allow your machine to write your test data to the card if it's still in the two-minute data buffer.) Whenever you normally check your graphs, look for the two incidents at the appropriate time when you purposefully held your breath. For an open airway, you'll see it marked as a central. For a closed airway, you'll see it marked as an obstructive. If the function of the machine is within normal parameters (i.e. your 'test apneas' show as predicted , you may safely assume that - indeed - your AHI is actually getting that much better.

Remember to watch for skew.

Great Idea!!
I have on occasion held my breath in the morning
when I've gotten up and watched the machine if it
increases the airflow and it does, but then I immediatly
shut it down on get on with my day,
I will however try you test and see tommorrow
(by the way, this mornings ahi was 0.0).

Thank you,
Marke

Congratulations.
You'll probably be able to feel the FOT pulses.
I'm looking forward to the results.

Last nights results were as follows
ahi 0.8
central 0.2
obstructive 0.6
hrs used 9.0
ahi numbers were generated by me holding my breath while awake
to test if machine is operating(as per DreamDivers suggestion,...thanks)
I believe that its safe to assume the machine is working properly
and that I am having consistent nights with ahi's of 0.0
I will continue to test on occasion but as of now I am happy with the results
and I believe I am on the golden path to increased energy and wellbeing

Thank you
Marke
