ADVICE REQUIRED RE SYMPTOMS & NEW MASK

Post by pemery » Fri Feb 04, 2011 3:17 pm

I have never had the typical listed Sleep Apnea symptoms of being overly tired during the day, the only way I was diagnosed was when I enquired about my snoring.

I have trialled various masks, and thought I had finally found a good one I was comfortable with, in a Resmed Mirage Liberty, a hybrid with nasal pillows and a mouth mask. I had a couple of good sleeps with it, but I am now showing those symptoms. ie I doze off at work at my desk and have a 2 hour sleep in the afternoon when I get home. I don't yet understand AHI, but it is higher with this new mask.

Can anyone advise me as to whether this is a good thing, in that my body is just adjusting to the new mask, or if I should give it away and go back to my Quattro Fx FFM? (which I don't sleep very well in)
Thanks for your help and advice.

Could be a leak affecting treatment or quality of sleep. Both of which will affect how we feel the next day.

How much higher AHI and any change in leak rate to speak of?

I dont know your masks but a common reason for not benefiting is mouth breathing with a nose only mask, this causes a very dry mouth and tongue on waking
fit and healthy people sometimes dont notice the fatigue that apnea causes
australian, anxiety and insomnia, a CPAP user since 1995, self diagnosed after years of fatigue, 2 cheap CPAPs and respironics comfortgell nose only mask. not one of my many doctors ever asked me if I snored
