Why not? I am not aware of any recommendation or evidence that indicates you must use a mask and machine built by the same manufacturer. Your same-maker theory may be keeping you from a mask that works.

As Jess Romano said in another post, one person's lifesaver can be the next person's dog toy.

I have nasal/sinus congestion so I need to use a FFM. Since starting therapy in late October, I have tried - in order - the Respironics ComfortFull 2, the Respironics ComfortGel, the F&P Forma and the ResMed Quattro. If I went totally by cpap.com's ratings, I should be ecstatic about the Quattro, almost as ecstatic about the Forma, be satisfied with the ComfortFull, and be meh with the ComfortGel. But my face has a different ratings system, and the ComfortGel is and remains my mask of choice. I'm keeping the Quattro around as an emergency backup, and I will continue to try adjusting it to my face, but the ComfortFull was returned and I quickly agreed to swap the Forma.

Faces and masks are all different, and the goal is to find what works best for you. Your mask is the key to successful therapy. There's no need to pair a particular company's xpap machine with its line of masks. Pick and choose what works best for you!

I'm new here but, I used the full face mask, had four sleep studies using it and couldn't bring my apnea numbers down until they tried a nasal mask and a chin strap on me during the last study. My mouth falls open at night too. One night, the technicians had four different masks for me to try during the night. They had to tighten one of them so tight, it became painful and I couldn't fall asleep. To each his own, but I think the object is to get a good night's rest. Now, I'd like to see if I can find a more comfortable nasal mask.

My current Resmed Mirage Quattro FFM already works, extremely well too. I am very happy with it. It handles jaw drop and subsequent mouth leak superior to any mask on the market.

ResmedUser,

No mask is the best mask on the market for everybody.

It's good that you really like your Resmed Mirage Quattro FFM even though there is evidence (from your posts) that you may be overtightening it. And it's good that your current set up works better for your particular jaw drop than anything else you've tried.

But the Quattro FFM does NOT work for everybody. And others have found solutions that they are HAPPY with that include alternatives to both the Quattro in particular and FFM in general. That doesn't mean the Quattro is not a fine mask. It just means it didn't work for them. And FFM are not for everyone either. To each their own when it comes to masks ....

I "thought" the Quattro was "the" answer...WRONG. The Fisher Paykel FlexiFit HC431 is IT!!!
The absolute best night(s) sleep I've ever had and continue to have night after night. It fits beautifully. Makes sense in the design and it doesn't leak. I mean...it doesn't leak!

Superior to any mask on the market? Now you are showing your arrogant ignorance again. How many FFMs have you slept with? One?

Look at what SageSteve just wrote. The Fisher & Paykel 431 and 432 fit underneath the chin and definitely handle jaw drop better than the Quattro. The Innomed Hybrid mask has a rigid under-the-chin flap and is also superior to the Quattro in this respect.

You sure spout off some inaccuracies for an unregistered noob. Maybe you haven't registered because it makes it easier to track the crap you post?

avi123: Now my previous post looks pretty goofy without context...
On a personal level, I am very glad that you were able to find the right size mask!

KimberlyM: I am crazy lactose-intolerant as well, and I hate everything soy (go figure). Have you tried almond milk on cereal? Do you eat any goat's milk products? Cheese, milk, yogurt, ice cream ? The lactose molecules in goat's milk are much smaller than in cow's milk, and therefore much easier for the brave lactase enzymes in your body to digest. PM me if you want to talk!

And now I end this post, having said absolutely nothing to Vitamin D. Fail.

Cheers,
Jess
