Zest Sounds Like Airforce I?

Post by kalatraza » Wed Feb 02, 2011 12:25 pm

Hi folks -- another NEWB here -- I've been lurking for a while and can't thank all of you enough for all of the great info.

I've been Cpapped (is that a verb?) for 3 weeks and using a swift fx. Have had some challenges with the mask leaking when I sleep on my side so my doctor suggested a nasal mask. The Zest seemed to fit me the best.

Last night I was going to try the Zest out. Had it on for about 15 seconds and realized that it was so so so loud. My husband said it sounded like Airforce 1! As far as I could tell, the mask wasn't leaking but there was a lot of whooshing air sound. (The swift fx in contrast barely makes any noice at all. . . )

Any ideas? Similar experiences? The swift fx has a small hose that connects the mask to the main hose & the Zest seems to connect directly, but that's the only thing I could figure out.

Thanks for sharing of the wisdom,
K

Make sure the silicone cover is snapped on firmly. If not, it will be extremely loud.

Not familiar with the Zest so no help there but just wanted to mention that it is common for different masks to be louder than others. When I changed from the Swift LT to the Swift FX my husband woke me up to tell me the machine was off because he didn't hear anything. It was indeed on, the FX was simply much quieter.

I find I have to watch where the hose is - when it is right in front of the vent it is much louder than when I rotate it off to the side. Then it is quite silent.

Good luck!

Thanks so much! I did not have the plastic parts snapped totally together -- huge difference. Watching where the hose is helped too. For what it's worth, the Zest is louder than the Swift FX by quite a bit, but it's nowhere near a jet engine levels.
