Cant stand humidity - dry nose :(

Post by MiPilot » Thu Jan 27, 2011 3:31 pm

What to do.....

It seems that I can't stand much humidity and I get congested. I am running my S9 Elite with no humidity and my Climateline set @70 and to no surprise I am drying out.

So last night I tried setting the humidity on .5 and was fine...but woke around 4:00 AM with a dry nose. Not so much the inside but around the rim of the nostrils. Well I reached over and turned it up to 1.0 and within 45 mins was having trouble breathing through my nose.

I was using a Mirage Softgel mask and two nights ago switch out to the Activa + which seems really helped with the leaks when sleeping on my side.

Is anyone else so intolerant to humidity?

Any Suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Steve

Are you using distilled water?

1. Hydrate your nose with saline spray a couple of times a day.
2. Use some Lanisoh on the nostrils to protect the skin from the dry air.
3. DRINK lots of water so you're hydrated well from within.

Would you be better off without the Climateline hose? Perhaps just running a regular or slimline hose with the humidifier up a little bit?

I started out with the machine set to auto and found it delivered to much humidity at several different temperatures.

I then tried it with all temp and humidity turned off....well I slept well but woke up cold to the core. We don't heat our bedroom but it stays around 66 degrees. Well that night it was -5 outside and the room dropped a little lower. This resulted in me waking up cold to the core.

So then I turned off the humidity and turned on the climateline and set it to 70 and was pretty good but slowly drying out.

I am also taking a Claritin to try to help.

Thanks, Steve

Dear Steve,

For nasal dryness, try AYR nasal gel - just a small dab INSIDE of each nostril. You can also get Ocean nasal spray - it's just a saline spray.

Best regards,

Jersey Girl

P.S. We're opposites! I love my humidity - in the winter we have our bedroom heat turned down and so I use an Aussie heated hose with my humidifier on my s8 turned up between 2 and 3.

Can someone explain to me how to fiddle with the humidifier settings? All I can do is change the temperature.

I prefer room humidifier. Amazon sells a very quiet and efficient vornado brand - make sure to get some extra filters

The clinician's manual, if you're up to reading it, covers that and other topics you may be interested in. PM if you'd like instructions for getting your hands on it.

Ok............saline spray I shall try.

I will also try a room humidifier. I have a warm air type I use in my office.

What a great community.

Thanks all,

Steve

I don't like the heated humidity either. I use the saline spray before I go to bed and it helps a lot.

As far as a room humidifier.........I've heard that cool mist is better than heated.

I've been having a problem with congestion too. So after reading the different posts on congestion and this and this one, I turned off my humidifier last night to check the results.

I found that I didn't have near the same congestion problem and slept better throughout the night. I have a whole house humidifier, so I think I'll leave the S9 humidifier off for a few days to see if my congestion problem stays away.

Thanks everyone for posting your experiences!
