can anyone help me with my new machine?

Post by Brenpbb11150 » Tue Jan 25, 2011 2:06 pm

Hello,
I just received my new back up machine which is the DeVilbiss intelli Pap Standard Plus with SmartFlex. My pressure is set at 9cm and I am on vacation right now for about a month and my AHI's have been around 7.6 every night. I have a new mask with very small leak percentage so I was wondering if I could move my pressure up to 10 and see If I get better numbers. Willl be seeing my sleep Dr. when I get home again but that is over a month away so thought I just might be able to help my numbers with a littl bit more pressure. I have been on Cpap one year now and have been at 9cm for the last 8 months. Am a little worried as I cannot get my ahi's down to a better range. I feel really pretty good but I see all these people on here and they have such great numbers below 5 and I am so wanting to get in that range with my Cpap .
Thank-You for any help you can give me.
Bren

*IF* your AHI was lower with your primary machine set to 9cm, and only your new backup is giving higher numbers, then I'd suggest bumping it to 10cm to see if it's a machine difference.

If you have seen a sudden rise in AHI using either machine, then it's something else. If you can't get to your sleep doc, you could bump it a bit...looking for an improvement in AHI...WITHOUT inducing Centrals. But I'm no doc, so proceed at your own risk.

I agree with LinKC..... Now, I have the IP Auto, and I found that bumping up my lower end pressure helped very much in reducing my AHI, but that number was still lower than my titrated #....as is the case when setting a range. However, I think experimenting for 5 to 7 days at 10 is worth a try. If you are absolutely sure you are not mouth breathing and the mask is not leaking, the pressure change will, hopefully, get your number down. Good luck!!

I do not know much about a central apnea, so since you mentioned it, I am just asking out of curiosity. Can central be induced by a high pressure number? I only heard that central was neurological, so if I am wrong, please educate me. Thanks!

The InteiilPAP machines use a different criteria for reporting events. Is your AHI mainly apneas or hypopnas? (Or can't you tell on the standard?) If it is mostly hypopnas, then you are probably seeing a higher score due to algorithm differences. I would try bumping your pressure to 10 for a few nights and see if that makes a difference. I would also try lowering it to 8 for a few nights and see if there is any difference. If you don't see any significant changes, then 9 is probably fine, especially because you also feel well.

If you edit your post to include the name of your machine in the subject line, you may capture more interest and responses.........

I don't have the clinician's manual for the standard machine, but you can get into the set up area by holding down the Delay and Down Arrow buttons at the same time and simultaneously push the On button. Your machine will now be in the clinician's set up mode and using your up/down/right/left/ arrows you can scroll and adjust things.

Hope that helps!
