My father-in-law, who is 93 is using a Respironics Cpap Machine with oxygen. He has a Resmed Swift Lt Mask. We do not know if the redness and sore under his nose is from the mask or from a nasal drip. I know I read someplace on here what could be used, but haven't been able to find it. He does use Ayr Saline Nasal Gel. Any suggestions? Does anyone have experience with just using the Cpap for oxygen.
I am still struggling with my CPAP, but I am learning more about it all the time. Last two nights only used it about an hour each night, but did snore!
Thanks for any help.

Re: Sore Nose from Swift Lt
It is probably from the mask which is probably too tight. I have the Swift LT and went through this phase myself. Put a little Lansinoh ointment on his nose to help reduce irritation. Spend some time just adjusting the mask straps. the pillows should be the only thing touching his nose.

Re: Sore Nose from Swift Lt
The pillows can tilt away from the upper lip. Notice the little "cogs" at the sides of the pillow holder. So you can adjust the pillows so that area under his nose has no pressure.
In my signature there are tips for fitting the Swift nasal pillows (works for LT or FX). The important key is that the pillows must be fully inflated BEFORE you adjust the headgear. So hold the pillows up to his nose, turn the machine on, and then put the headgear over his head to adjust it.
This is why this won't work for the oxygen alone--the oxygen does not produce sufficient pressure to inflate the pillows--and if he needs CPAP he needs CPAP. Remember the CPAP delivers air pressure, not oxygen, so it is not a substitute for oxygen.
Try the Lanisoh cream, it's very soothing. He should use it during the day, too, to help heal that area.

Re: Sore Nose from Swift Lt
I don't have a lot of experience yet, but the respiratory therapist told me to use aloe vera gel.
