Thanks to Ric, I FINALLY have encore and MY ENCORE running.
It is totallly awesome and I think this can be a quantum leap in patients being able to take control of their health.

I realize patients should not be their own doctor and I do not encourage it.
A sleep study should be utilized, but the follow up and titration should be betted done with the data. IMHO. Disagreements?

I just cannot imagine anymore any concievable reason a doc would oppose an autopap and encourage the patients to utilize the software.

I wish there was a way for those with a smartcard to send it to a service or person to analyze the data for them and return the report for the patients next doc visit. This way the doc could have the info and be better able to provide better service for the patients.

But I can understand the reason. They do not get paid for analyzing data and will not do it, even though the patient would be far better off.
This would not take the docs time.
Any thoughts on educating the docs?

Hey Tom, when I purchased my Remstar Auto directly off the internet (I won't name it in consideration to our sponsor), I was told to send in my card after 2 months. I did, and they read it for me and returned it with a 14 page report, in color, and wrote comments. They suggested I bump up to a high of 10 on the pressure. They also noted that the "average leaks" was good, and that my "total AHI" was very good. They told me I could mail them the card any time to get it read.

A side note: This is also the same seller, along with Respironics, who repaired my unit when I got water inside it. It was out of warranty and it was my fault, but they sent me a loaner, paid for the shipping, and repaired it free of charge. It never cost me a penny. I was ready to pay a bundle, out of pocket, for my own dumb mistake.

So, some sellers are very good. I got excellent service from my online guy.

Another side note: I just purchased my "2factors" reader. Hubby is prepared to do all the complicated computer work - I'm computer illiterate. (that's why my smiley faces don't work half the time) What's the trick with those?

Not sure where you are talking about.
DME?

I wonder how kosher their advice to you to change the settings- Increase the pressure.

This has the spectre of impropriety. I would think there could be legal problems here.

I am hoping there can be a compromise some day to give the consumers more power without jeopardizing the manufacturers.

As it now stands, a person can buy an APAP online, download the software free, and treat him/herself.
Is this good?

As far as my internet provider is concerned, I guess he is a DME. Also, a prescription was required for me to purchase my Remstar Auto.

My auto was set for 5-9, and his suggestion was to bump it up to 5-10 because of what he saw on my SmartCard report.

As an individual, if I read my own report and saw I needed to raise the upper level of the Auto, I would have done it - without seeing a doctor.

Thanks for the info on the reader downloads via PM.

Heck yes, it's great. My sleep doctor wants to see me just once a year. Now he could be a great doctor, but with that little contact, I'm not going to get great treatment.

Having a hand in my own treatment almost guarantees compliance, which as we know is key to long term apnea treatment success.
