Always exsausted

Post by Tkaczuk » Fri Jan 21, 2011 7:25 pm

Would love to get some feedback from CPAP users that are going thru some of these problems. I am always exsausted thru out the day. Best way to describe it i am consumed by being tired. I just want to get started and see if anyone has a similarity and what they're circumstance are and slowly go from there. I wake up allot sometimes from the tubing making a wisteling noise from the water escaping. I have a hard time breathing thru my mouth and prefer Air forced thru my Nose. My moisture setting is in it's highest yet i wake up many times with my mouth very dry even tough i use a chinstrap. Any sort of response would be greatly appreciated.

I purchased a chinstrap for later use but right now I use a full face but the doc told me a chinstrap does not mean for sure you are keeping your mouth closed. Some users here go further, taping their mouth shut etc. Try a search on mouth leaks.

All of the clues are in your post......which is pretty slim on information.

You're obviously using a nasal mask.......but too much of your therapy air is exiting out your mouth.
Your humidity setting is WAY too high. Too much humidity can make nasal congestion worse.....which forces you to mouth-breathe.
Turn your humidifier setting way down or off (but leave the water in the tank). Cool air will help keep your nasal passages open.
Do nasal cleansing before bedtime.......so you can BREATHE through your nose.
Either tape your mouth shut or get a full face mask. Chinstraps don't work worth a darn.

Agree, chin straps have not worked a bit for me. I tape.

Before diagnosis for OSA I was bone aching tired ALL the time. I coped by pushing through it....but not very well. OSA impacted my thinking and emotions. Some of my work responsibilities were removed as I couldn't concentrate, or remember complex things.
After getting my machine last April I had three days in the first month of mental clarity. Only with the contrast did I realize how foggy my brain function was. It took three months before I began to feel younger and have energy left over after work. Just hang in there, use your machine every night, It will get better....you will feel better....most do. It's possible you have a large 'sleep debt' to repay and it could take awhile for your body to heal. Patience and Persistance is the key

Try using a 'bite-n-boil" sport mouth guard with your chin strap. Walmart has them. Look in the isle containing football and soccer equipment. I use a mouth guard and chin strap as I'm a back sleeper. The mouth guard helps my tongue stay in the correct position to block air from flowing into the mouth and out through the lips.
Hope you find a solution that works great for you!
