Facial Mask Newbie

Post by bettydlls77 » Thu Jan 20, 2011 11:28 pm

I'm sleep apnea newbie, I have a quattro med full fack mask, it leaks air really bad if I turn my head rig or left. I can't sleep on my back because of spine problems. I'm waking up constantly with a whistle noise. Adjust doesn't help. I thought about removing the cushion, enduring the hard plastic woud be worth it to get the benefit from my cpap. I have pulmonary hypertension and interstitial lung disease. My doctors prefer this treatment instead of meds that can cause other severe problems. I can't afford a new mask, unemployment benfits depleted and no medical insurance. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, You may find some mask relief by checking out Pad-A-Cheek for cushioning. Adjusting the Quattro happens best when done methodically. What are the stats of your treatment? The leaks are important, but not as important as the Apneas and Hypomeas you are experiencing in treatment. Some leaking is inevitable.

It is a sad reality of this illness that you have to find a way to keep trying different masks until you find one that works. Cpap.com is the best place for this because you can buy a mask and pay for insurance, which will allow you to try different masks and return them if they don't work for you.

The Quattro is, I think, a kind of Mack truck of a mask. By virtue of its weight and design, it sits in place pretty well if you sleep on your back. I know other have recommended it door tossers and turners and side sleepers. If adjustments don't work then the mask may just be the wrong mask. My Quattro sat solid and immovable on my face, but I have just switched to the new FX for com for reasons.

Do go to Pad-A-Cheek and see if. There are any things that can help with comfort and fit. With the forehead padding, you can secure the top straps much more tightly.

I hope this helps. good luck to you.

Namaste,
MoonBear
