90% pressure?

Post by brendatv » Sat Jan 08, 2011 11:41 am

What does the "90% pressure" mean in my info data on my cpap? I have been curiously looking at the data there each morning, but I don't know what that information is telling me.

You spent 90% of your night at that pressure or below and 10% of your night above that pressure.

If you set your machine in straight cpap mode you should set it at or maybe 1 or 2 cm below that 90% pressure.

Hawthorne, why 1-2cms below and not AT 90% pressure? Mike's titration was 13, on auto of 10.5-13 his 90% is between 11and 12cms so on staight cpap I set it at 12cms. His AHI is slightly lower on cpap than auto. Does that sound about right?

I would set it just a bit below depending on at what pressure I spent MOST of the night. If I spent most of the night at the 90%, I would set in there but I don't and many people don't. Even though my 90% is 12 cm, I spend most of the night at 11 cm. so I would set it at 11cm in straight cpap mode to start. If my AHI went up too much or I didn't feel as good, I would set it at 12cm then. Does that make sense?

Mike's is fine but it might be about the same AHI at 11 cm. Trial and error would tell. I want to set it as low as I can when in straight cpap because in straight cpap I often get aerophasia (don't know how to spell that but I mean gas!) badly if the pressure is too high.

Yes, that makes perfect sense, I know that he does sleep at 11 most of the night even though his 90% is 12. I just changed him back to straight cpap at 12cms because I thought all his sleepiness and napping was indicating that he wasn't doing well on auto anymore but of course we know now that it was his hip infection festering all that time so I'll have to start from scratch again once I get him home. It' amazing what the body can tell you if you can only connect the dots. Of course it's not my body I'm dealing with. I'm not too concerned because I know by now I'm pretty much in the ballpark but if he does do better on straight pressure in general , I'd sure like a lower pressure of 11cms, I never tried that.
Thanks.
