My personal posts show up in Google search!
My personal posts show up in Google search!
I just googled my email address and it pulled up my last few posts on this cpaptalk website. How embarassing! I don't want anyone to know that I have this medical problem and the issues I'm having. How can these be deleted? I don't even want to log in as myself to post this.
Re: My personal posts show up in Google search!
Log in as yourself and edit out your personal information from the posts where you posted it. If anyone quoted that info, you can try asking them to please edit their posts. If any of that fails, you can always appeal to the admin to have the posts modified to delete your personal information.Guest wrote:I just googled my email address and it pulled up my last few posts on this cpaptalk website. In a few weeks, it should be gone from google. In case it wasn't clear already, you should never post your personal information, such as name, email, phone number, address, etc. to the Internet.
Re: My personal posts show up in Google search!
That is interesting.... I just googled my email and none of my hundreds of posts on here are showing up. Granted, I am very active in other areas on the web, but my results were limited. Perhaps you can establish another email address just to use for this site. Most email clients allow you several addresses. Once you do that, you can change your email address under User Control Panel -->Profile--->Edit Account Settings.

I've never posted my personal email--it's pulling it from my profile when I log in.
Re: My personal posts show up in Google search!
I tried to google my e-mail and it did not pull up any of my previous posts either.

Re: My personal posts show up in Google search!
Emilia, the guest's email address is not coming from her account information in the User Control Panel. Web crawlers cannot reach that without a password. Her email address showed up in google because she posted it in a post in this public forum.
While I'm here, let me just point out that you should not post anyone else's email address or other personal information to this forum or other public fora without their permission.
Do not give facebook or other social media your email password. When you search on facebook, there is a box asking for your email password. Do NOT give it to them. Facebook is so sleezy. Do not give any site your email password except where you log on to check email.
Think twice about sending someone an e-greeting card. You are giving some third party access to your loved ones email address. Don't use the "send this to a friend" feature on many webpages, either. You should reserve publication of other people's email address and name as their right, so they can keep it off the Internet if the so choose.
I have an email account, the address of which I have never given to a single soul. Not one solitary person except me knows that email account address. I use the account to send email to myself and for reminder notices that email accounts can generate from a calendar for you. Guess what. I have never, ever gotten a single piece of spam on it, ever.
If you gave your email address only to friends who behaved as well as I do, you would never get spam, either.

No, it isn't, not unless you are logging in with your email address as the userid.Guest2222 wrote:I've never posted my personal email--it's pulling it from my profile when I log in.

Well, her username is talktobon, not her email address. She said she has never posted her email address in any post. I suppose she could do a forum search for her own email address to be sure it isn't on any post.

I googled my username, and found myself. I'm still anonymous, but I would like to one day post a picture of my real self.

Hey! I googled myself and got my family tree. Turns out I'm the sap!
Re: My personal posts show up in Google search!
Yep... well, then, it appears the OP did it to herself! Live and learn..... If I were her, I'd delete any of those older posts with that username.

Re: My personal posts show up in Google search!
She can't, unless she logs in as herself and uses the "Spam" button or appeals to the admin. Posts from guest accounts cannot be modified.Emilia wrote:If I were her, I'd delete any of those older posts with that username.
Re: My personal posts show up in Google search!
My posts have a large X button next to the edit button.....it is to delete a post. So... she can log in and go to those posts and delete them.

The X only exists for the last post in the thread. Otherwise, you can only edit the post or delete it with "Spam."Emilia wrote:My posts have a large X button next to the edit button.....it is to delete a post. So... she can log in and go to those posts and delete them.
She cannot log in and delete that post, because she didn't log in to make the post in the first place. Click on the link and you will see that she was NOT logged in when she made that post.
Re: My personal posts show up in Google search!
Well, live and learn for me, too! Seems silly that one can't delete any of one's own posts at any time. I wonder if her name is showing in black on that post because she did change her user name after that to just talkonban. The email username is not in the Member data base only the current username. Well, regardless..... hope she comes back and reads this so she can use the spam button to delete it/them.
