Machine Settings

Post by elrodsblues » Thu Dec 23, 2010 9:17 am

Anyone know why the supplier of my machine would set my pressure different from the doctors script?? It was put to 7.5 and the script was for 8-9, as well the supplier is not much for helping me with info. And yes I am a newbie to the site. TX

so with an auto range they gave you a non-auto machine... I'd raise a fuss with the DME. The machine that you got won't give you any usable data. If you have to stay with F&P try for a 254

plus I would have guessed that they would have picked 8.5 instead of 7.5 with a range of 8-9

push it with the DME long before that... you need to get it done in the first 30 days

You need to do something NOW about this. You were issued a Rx with a pressure range for an auto adjusting cpap machines, and you got the old bait and switcheroo from your DME so they could make more money at your expense. You have a legal right to have a copy of your Rx as well as your sleep study. Demand these NOW. You also, generally, have 30 days in which to exchange your machine...which, I assume, is on a rental basis for now. You must be assertive and demand you have what was Rx'd by your physician... an auto adjusting cpap machine, and one which is fully data capable.

Please take a moment to fill in your Profile by going to the User Control Panel, top left, and then Profile and Edit Equipment. Choose your machine, humidifier, mask from the drop down menus and then choose to show them in TEXT, not pictures. Once you get your NEW auto machine, you can change it.

One of our members has a wonderful blog and has written guidelines on how to approach your DEM and get what you are supposed to have. Read this post: http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/what-y ... me-part-i/

Interesting info ...no wonder I am being pushed aside with the supplier.. my bad news is the machine is bought and paid for as well as past the 30 days and I wish I had of joined you all in the beginning .....good news is the head office of the supplier is also in my home town so I think you know where I am heading with the script from the doctor and machine in tow Thanks so much all

Even more disturbing is that the fixed pressure isn't even in the prescribed APAP range.

So the OP was given:
  • A non-data capable machine.
A straight CPAP instead of the prescribed APAP machine.
A machine set at 7.5cm instead of a pressure set somewhere between 8cm and 9cm since the APAP range was for 8--9cm.
So the non-data CPAP was not even set at a pressure that was likely to be an effective pressure for the OP.
To the OP: This is akin to a pharmacy filling a prescription with an ineffective dosage of generic drug when the prescription was for a name brand at a higher dosage level with the "do not substitute" box checked.

It may be worth trying to get your insurance company (if you have one) or your doctor to tangle with the DME and rather than you "being pushed aside by the DME" it's time for you to find a new DME and let this DME know exactly WHY they are losing your business.

OK everyone I am told the machine was set with a monometer at 8 and the doctor script is variable to be set anywhere from 8-9 and sometimes the machine guage will show 7.5 when it is really 8 ???? so I guess for a new machine they are not very dependable gauges TX again everyone

So, you aren't demanding an auto cpap, fully data capable machine? Sounds like they talked you out of everything we suggested you should have! Bottom line....you still have a brick w/no ability to give you or anyone data on your therapy!

The supplier still maintains all is correct according to the Doctor script. I am calling them today as well as Paykel about the machine discrepency. Will get back to you all soon ...I am stuck with the machine though as it is paid for and beyond the return policy however if Paykel says it is a defect then I should have a pretty good case. TX
