Well.... It's official.... I'm hooked!

Post by stevesgrl98 » Mon Dec 20, 2010 9:00 am

I still have not mastered the CPAP, however, I am hooked!

I spent the night with my sister who lives locally. I forgot my CPAP equipment at home and decided to be lazy and not go back home. What could one night do, right? HA! I couldn't NOT sleep. I could not breathe. I felt like I was sufforcating. I would wake up when I gasped for air; even though I never did that before treatment.

What is ironic, is that I felt that I was not "improving" as much as I thought I should, but was continuing the fight because my daily headaches were all but gone. I am glad that I didn't go back to get it because now I am more than determined. I know that it is working. It was a great lesson learned.

I've missed being "on the hose" only one night in over four years......and like your experience....I won't forget it.

You might want to move in the direction of obtaining a spare machine........"Be Prepared".....

I feel the same way. As soon as I put my mask on its as if I sent a message that says "sleep" and I am out like a light!

Yes, it does seem that once we know, we develop of awareness of the signs of trouble. I wonder if part of that is because at one time it was our norm, but after treatment the sensations are a stark contrast to the breathing we've come to expect.

Hooked - yep, me too.

There's nothing like that kind of experience to make us realize how much benefit we derive from CPAP! Recently, I woke up from a full night of sleep with CPAP. It was overcast outside, and I decided to "sleep just one more hour." For some reason, I took my mask off. Big mistake! I was repeatedly startled awake by feelings of suffocation. It was an hour of torture! I'm hooked on CPAP too.

For me, all it took was an afternoon nap in a chair while watching t.v. Even though I was sitting up, within 10 minutes I had a huge reflux expisode and felt like I was going to drown. I felt horrible for two days after that.

Another reflux sufferer said that they would have to "pry the CPAP out of her cold, dead, hands" to keep her from using it and I wholeheartedly concure!

Indeed....I actually love CPAP! About a year ago I went on a road trip 5 hours away. When getting ready for bed I realized I forgot my mask!!! ARRGGGG It was a HORRIBLE two nights of not having the dream machine. I slept OK, but not near as well as I do with it. That was the first time in 3 years I slept without it and I hated it. LOL
I handle my OWN CPAP use without doctors.
