S9 Elite - can convert to Autoset?

Post by Samart » Sun Dec 19, 2010 2:20 am

When I was shopping for a CPAP machine I had the question of whether I should get an APAP machine instead (its price was similar), but chose to take the advice of the vendor who said it would be best to get the type of machine my doctor had subscribed (CPAP).

I bought the ResMed S9 Elite, but now I am wondering, if I ever need to, could I convert the Elite in to an Autoset? They both look like identical products (even comparing the spercs). Does anybody know if it might just be a firmware update which would be required, or heard of anyone attempting this?

Unfortunately...NO. The autoset can be used in the CPAP mode, but the Elite can only be used as a CPAP.

Both machines have the same insurance code payment whether Cpap or Apap but the vendor's cost is less for cpap. With Apap it can be set to either mode. See if you can get it exchanged if possible. Keep us posted.

I'ved wondered the same thing, but even if possible, where would you get the firmware? I can't imagine ResMed making that available, and I don't know how else you could get it.

when I was looking over 5 years ago for my first machine, I think the model was S7 back then (S8 was just coming out as I got my first machine) there was a firmware update a DME could obtain to update the CPAP to an APAP - I don't recall the model names - the price as I recall was just under $300

now whether or not Resmed has continued that with S8, S8 II and S9 I have no idea - the PCB's could be loaded with different components or the same ones

I do know my tank Pro 2 and APAP have the same main PCB in them however I have never taken both apart at the same time and checked each component on the board to see if they are the same
