I see just 1 - the 1 looking in the mirror and by the way it's not good for this old lady to hyperventilate - unless its for a very good reason. Peace brother. Another defender of hyperventilating old ladies steps up. Look, some of my best friends are old ladies. I've got nothing against old ladies. You know at first, I was really pissed off. But then this "little old lady" sat back and realized, while NOT hyperventilating, that you are making a real ass of yourself with these comments. You may have a few people that give you an "attaboy" for it, but I'm betting more are disgusted by your lack common decency or manners.brain_cloud wrote:Another defender of hyperventilating old ladies steps up. I'd also like to know when under 50, which I am, qualified as a little old lady? I personally find that offensive because the older a person is, the more respect they should get.
I'm betting your mother and grandmother would be ashamed of you.
But I am truly laughing because the only one looking really bad here is you --

Brain_Cloud
The other day in chat others were referring to you as 'cloudy' while I referred to you as 'brainy'. They were right, I was wrong.
And when I joked about yout brain MRI coming out blank, I had no idea how close I came to the truth.
You desperately need some training in sensitivity, civility, andd manners.

I surely thought there were two of you... one to insult old ladies and the other to insult the plebeians on the board who need to be corrected in grammar and vocabulary. And actually, a third to insult the intelligence of all by explaining a tired old saw.brain_cloud wrote:How many selves do I have?
I am quite sure these old lady friends of yours are too far into senile dementia to realize what a pompous boor you are. Why don't you just join mensa?brain_cloud wrote: Look, some of my best friends are old ladies

Is chat really that active anymore? I popped in a week or so ago and there were a few people there, but before that the last few times I had checked, there was no one there. Admittedly, I have been away for quite a while, but chat is nothing like it was a year or two ago! There was almost always a crowd - and we had fun in addition to getting/giving lots of valuable information and help. I do miss the good ol days.

where did you GVZ get yours?gvz wrote:This board is a self-healing entity. Good.
To 'fake moderator' and all your stupid aliases -- you know what to do: Apologize with a minimum 500-word essay on the board. Or it will never stop, ever. The bots will see to it.
Shame on you for picking on old helpless ladies. Where did you get your manners?
you GVZ seem to have a bot to kick people out of chat you want out - that isn't your decision to make and carry out
As I told you last night I am not moderator and never have used that name. Kicking me out of chat was uncalled for and I hope Johnny bans you for this board as well as from chat.
You GVZ have been at least part of what has ruined chat for many lately.
My vote on this manner stands. I am for guest allowing to be in chat. They can be just as much of a problem as you are. You have accused me openly and privately of being calist when I go in as jules and you have accused me now of being "moderator" (also calist I assume) the cause of all of this shit when I go in with the name "who knows" which I have used many times in chat.
GVZ - leave here - apologize on the way out.

Just curious...
Can you prove those statements objectively and,
In what sense is the poll "otiose"' considering its stated purpose:
There's no irritation or hostility on my part; it's just banter to keep you on your toes.Let us find out how many are for the Chat Room being restricted to Registered Members only, and how many are against.

First,
I did not vote on this poll, I really want the chat to stay around but as I can see the good and bad of having the chat be for registered users or not I have decided to go with what ever Johnny has decided.

Second,
This statement from you brain_cloud was really uncalled for. I think that the chat room is not only a place for help but also A place to meet new people and make friends and further build this community. When some entity or entities come in there ( or the forum for that matter) and try to disrupt or destroy this community it is disturbing ,disheartening and makes people angry. So some people decided to voice their opinion which is their right to do. It is statements like the one you made above that keep people from speaking their mind or voicing their opinion.brain_cloud wrote:A troll came and found easy pickings. Re: POLL:Chat Room:Should Access Be For Registered Members Only
So far, what I've learned from this thread:
1. Some feel that people who try to kick other people out should be kicked out.
2. People who try to discourage others from voicing their opinions should not voice their opinions, in the opinion of some.
3. Johnny wants to solve problems in a reasonable way and doesn't mind people discussing it.
4. I learn new words here sometimes, like "otiose." Cool.
I will not defend brain cloud. His wit is rapier enough. But I will attempt to translate his statements, based on my personal interpretations of them, just because I feel like it . . .
"A troll." Someone who creates controversy for its own sake without making a viable point. That sounds like what may have been happening in chat.
"found easy pickings." Trolls thrive on reactions, so the key is, generally, not to react in a way that provides a payoff for the troll. Trolls hate to be ignored, so ignoring them is a kind of weapon against them.
"a few old ladies." In context, this does not necessarily mean "elderly females." An insulting phrase, yes. But usually, at least in military circles, refers to young men.
"hyperventilate." Actually, this forum more often addresses hypoventilation, so it is good to see "hyper" get equal time.
"Let's not be overly dramatic." This is a statment of brain cloud's opinion of what he sees as a good way of dealing with the problem, as I read it. You may not agree with him. But it sounded to me like an attempt at a helpful suggestion, of sorts, in a Rain Man/Zuckerberg sort of way.
There is a long history of flippant quips as a way of stating opinion and imparting information succintly on message boards. Yes, it grates on my ears sometimes, too. But I see it as no reason to attempt to run people off who insist on using that form of communication, whether it is to our personal liking or not. I prefer to do my best not to hurt feelings, whenever possible, but that style of mine is as likely to grate on as many ears as brain cloud's style, I would assume.
Just my 2 cents.
Good poll, mars. Not otiose to me, even if odious in the eyes of some.
