Reading post lead to more questions

First let me thank you fine people for your replies. I believe in the notion of collective wisdom. You have enabled me to beleive i can straighten out the issue and get back to using my PAP.

1.)
I have read that alot of the DME do not follow orders.( DME ??) is the actual acronym for, my guess, Distributor of Medical Equipment. Of course you thing your does ??? I found out maybe not since I registered here.

Any way I posted before and people told me to get a copy of my study. I thought that would be easy, not so. My PCP only had a summary, which I have, and a copy of the order for my DME. Guess what. My Doctor recommended that I get a auto PAP and try it for a week. He wrote he felt it would be benifical to me. That was never mentioned to me by my DME. What they did do is gave me a machine that had recording capabilities. They let me use it and then I had the sleep study number 2. I mentioned that I like the machine a Resmed2 CFLEX, and they set me up and sold me one. I not sure why they would do that?? Now two year later I only have 65, >4 hrs nights on the machine because of the wide swings in my weight and the huge changes in pressures. So I guess I am stuck, non compliant with a machine my insurance company already paid for. What is the value of a slightly used machine. Can I put it on Ebay ?? How do I start to straighten this out

2.)

I woke up today very wound up, one nostril plugged. I am a mouth breather who apparently can discpline himself not to open his mouth even when he is getting short on air. I think I have exhausted every type of intervention now. I have had surgery once even. No allergy pill, decongestant, nasal spray, neilmed nasal wash, can keep me clear even for 4 hours. I want to try a FFM. I have read some good things about the Quatto FFM. IS your pressure the same with a FFM ??? Will I adapt and open my mouth when I get congested after I where a FFM ?? Do I need another sleep study. Do I need a prescription for a FFM. I want one today. I cannot stand waking up in a panic or not using my mask do to congestion. It is even that bad, of congeston on nostril completely blocked will wake me up. I take it off and now the real problems start.

I did think of one thing I have not tried a HEPA filter either pre or in line what do you think

All help is deeply appreciated

Doug

Swede, I think you certainly should try a full face mask, or maybe a Hybrid. I like the Hybrid because no part of it goes over my nose. Finding the right mask is like finding the right shoes--needs, preferences, and anatomies vary, so sometimes we have to try several to get the best fit. Your pressure needs shouldn't change with a full face mask. Their advantage is that they allow you to breathe through your mouth if you need to, but you can still breathe through your nose as well, and if your mouth opens you don't lose the therapy air.

If you have a valid mask prescription, you can take it to any DME and purchase a mask of your choice. Or you can get in touch with cpap.com and they'll have your doctor fax the prescription to them. If you're getting a new prescription the best wording is "mask of patient's choice." Any doctor can write the prescription, by the way, it doesn't have to be a sleep doctor; even your dentist could do it.

The Hybrid is a full face mask without being a full face mask AND it will teach you to breathe with your mouth over a few months.
