Re: Software
burnside,
Many people can and do get by without the software. However, even if you have really good interaction and attention from your sleep professionals, they aren't there every night. While you may be getting good therapy and you are doing well with it, things can and do change. If you're not doing well, as much information as you can get is always helpful. The display on the machine will provide only minimal information while the software to read the details of your sleep shows you, essentially breath by breath, what your sleep and therapy was like.
As such, if your therapy is doing well, detailed information will alert you early on if there is a trending change which may require a change in your therapy. If you aren't doing well, it will provide the details that may well be clues or direct "smack you in the head" evidence of what is going wrong including indicators of leaks (mask or mouth breathing), events not handled, etc. It sure did for me. I'd still be struggling seriously were it not for the detail provided with the software read of my machine's performance coupled with stellar advice from this forum.
As to running on a Mac, I can't speak to the Resmed software as I have a Respironics PR1 APAP but the Respironics Encore Viewer and Encore Pro software, both reputed to be fussy in their running environment, run well in a Windows 7 VM in Parallels on my Mac.

Re: Software
Hi, from a Mac user... there is no software made for us, but if you have an iMac with Intel, you can use Boot Camp (which I did) or Parallels to install Win XP (or later versions), and then the software.
Re: Software
My mac does have an intel processor. So where can I get a copy of the resmed software?
Re: Software
Cpap.com... but you should look at the bundle that goes with the machine, because it's not just the software, but a particular card reader and more that you'll need.
Re: Software
Trike-Mike, thanks for the concise and interesting argument for making a good decision whether to bother tracking your stats or not. It was a great explanation IMHO!
A friend's husband uses a CPAP and she goes home and tells him stuff we talk about (CPAP-related only LOL). She is keen for him to start taking more charge of his OSA so I printed out this thread as he feels he's better off remaining oblivious and just doing what his medical team advises.
Btw, he's been a hosehead for over 4-yrs - me a mere 8-weeks.
I love this place!
Cheers,
xena

Re: Software
I don't think one can buy ResMed software on cpap.com. However, if you look for Uncle_Bob on this forum and PM him to ask for a the link, he will send you the links for the software download and the clinician's manual for your machine.
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

Re: Software
Just type in the search bar up top, " Uncle_Bob" his posts will come up and his link for the software is there. (without the quotations.)

Actually, Uncle_Bob no longer has the links on his posts. You need to PM him to get them sent to you.
