How to best refill the Remstar Integrated Humidifier

Post by Ligament » Tue Dec 06, 2005 10:33 pm

Hi All,

I have a Remstar Integrated Passover Humidifier. Every night, I disconnect the cpap hose, insert the funnel, fill the reservoir with water, remove funnel, and reattach the hose. This is a pain, and is likely putting excessive wear on my Aussie heated cpap hose.

Is there a better way to refill the reservoir...say, without removing the hose? Perhaps there is a part I can insert between the reservoir opening and the hose that has a quick release valve/cap that I can pour water through?

Help?!
thanks!

Ligament,

I don't have the heated hose, but that's the only way you're going to get it filled. Any other way would probably amount to more work. Any other "attachments" would probably either leak air or break.

I just got in the mail today a "Hose Quick Connect", which seems to make taking the hose on and off easier, not quite so rubbery and seems to slide off easier without having to get down and arm-wrestle it off. (I HATE to lose that contest with a humidifier!) It seems to fit perfectly tight, just not quite so hard to get off. Also it seems that any wear and tear will be on the quick-connect thingy (which is cheap and replaceable), and not the hose. It was $4 from our beloved sponsor. Seemed like a good investment.

Funny you mentioned the Hose quick connect from cpap.com. I just ordered one two days ago with the same thoughts in mind. Still don't know if its the best solution.

Could one use a connecter designed to allow the attachement of an oxygen tank line?

I've got the $4 quick hose connector and it works quite well. The Aussie hose has more strain relief than an ordinary CPAP hose, but I'd sure hate for mine to fail that way.

When I got mu heated hose, I got an elbow connector with it (they sent ot in the same package)- hard plastic. I use this connector between the hose and the humidifier and it does not cause the hose to wear.

_I have the same problem. I have considered putting the funnel in the hose at the mask end and pouring the water down the entire length. It is plastic and little if any should stick to the hose. A few drops of extra water likely wouldnot hurt anyway.

I to use the O2 valve line on the hose, to reduce wear and tear. The only downside it you can't exhale into the mask to start up the machine, because it vents the machine side when the CPAP isn't running.
