What are good compliance numbers?

I have the fisher paykel 604, the only info I think I can get off it is compliance. I think it's 5.2, not sure if it is compliance if that's considered good or not...I know I use it every night all night except for three or four bathroom trips when turn it off and disconnect the hose from the mask.

Compliance just means that you are using the machine so that the insurance provider knows it is not wasting its money paying for your cpap to sit in the closet unused. Most insurance companies require at least 4 hours per night usage (and seem to vary from 80% of all nights you have the machine in your possession to 100%, meaning every night). It does not indicate that the therapy is helping you - except, of course, that it can't help if you are not using it.

So the number 5.2 on the LCD screen with a little crecent moon next to them means number of hours used each night? Leads me to another question... How the heck does the little bugger know if I don't use it on a night or two? Lol. Just inquiring minds want to know

Also, if I only get 6 hours sleep on any given night then 5.2 is kinda ok then?

Little bugger has an internal clock. When I was still on bipap I looked one morning and saw that my AHI ten day average was really down - I was happy about that until I realized the dang thing knew enough to note the one night of non-compliance when I'd been off to the sleep lab two nights earlier, but wasn't programmed to eliminate my "results" so it factored in the fact that I had 0 apnea incidents recorded that night, thus lowering my weekly average. You'd think the manufacturer could fix that somehow....

A bit of amplification: The bugger doesn't know (or care!) if you are using the machine. It only knows if the blower is running. It (and your Ins folks) assume you are using the machine any time it's running. That may become helpful should you get behind on your hours... I'm just sayin'...

Hi,

Think of the machine having a split brain. One side of the brain, the compliance side, only cares if the blower motor is running. The other side of the brain, the part that regulates pressure, compensates for leaks, and detects events, does know the difference, but none of that impacts the compliance numbers.

The PR system one records both blower hours and therapy hours - like Santa it knows who's naughty and nice. My RT asked me to document both times for her (of course, that request was made to me a month after I'd been switched from the system one to my ASV, but that's a whole other issue...).

It probably depends on the machine what it bothers to record.
