Re: Newbie
As far as I know DO NOT TAKE as it will Effect the outcome of the study
you want a true picture of the results the medicine will only mask the problem

Re: Newbie
not true... ambien is what they give you at the study if you can't sleep.
Re: Newbie
Why give a med to make you sleep when they are trying to find the reason behind the sleep Problem to me It will only generate a false positive response
But I would not take them before the study unless instructed.
If they need to give you the Med at the time of the study that is up to them.I'm on ambien as needed...if I took it before the study would it affect the results?

I would do two things:ham7137 wrote:Hi again....I go for my first sleep study tomorrow night...I'm on ambien as needed...if I took it before the study would it affect the results?
1. Call your referring doctor and ask this question; and/or
2. Call the sleep lab. My sleep lab instructions said to take my prescribed sleep meds.
I have had 4 separate sleep studies and took my sleep medication with each of them as advised by my doctor. All 4 studies were of excellent quality. My REM revealed pathology, but it was explained to me that this was most likely due to long-term use of sleep meds in combination with my obstructive sleep apnea.
Some people are highly sensitive to sleeping in a strange location - especially a sleep lab. There is nothing worse than to go through the time and expense of a sleep study and be unable to sleep. Best Wishes, Laurie

Re: Newbie
When I went for my sleep study, Ambien was ordered by the sleep doctor to help me sleep. Ambien will not mask the problem. If you have sleep apnea it will be apparent whether you took the Ambien or not.

Re: Newbie
I was told by my Sleep Dr. to take an Ambien at both my sleep study and titration. My snoring actually is worse when I take Ambien and wanted to test me at my worst. I'd check with your Dr. before you took anything though.
