Activa mirage - watering eyes
Activa mirage - watering eyes
I asked about watering eyes but didn't hear much, so I am trying another subject naming the mask I have been using since May. For the last month and a half my eyes are constantly tearing. I mean all the time. I am so tired of blurry eyes and my grandkids saying, "Nana, why are you crying" Does anyone have this problem? Do you think my mask is leaking or something? I have a setting of l4. It starts lower and gets up after a few minutes - maybe 20 minutes to the full pressure. I haven't had this problem until recently. Help please.
good afternoon!
My eyes tend to be more dry all the time as opposed to watering. If it just started you might want to check with your physician. I wouldn't think that a leaking mask would affect your eyes when you weren't wearing it.
Just my opinion.
Have a great day. I hope you find some answers.

WooHoo! Life is good.
I get a little cocky when I am "NO LONGER TIRED"

I use the Activa and have found that if I do get leaks near the bridge of my nose the air blowing in my eyes at night irritate my eyes during the day. i found I needed to adjust the upper straps and the forehead support to stop the leaks. I have the straps a little tighter and the support set so when inflated the mask is tighter (closer to my face) against the bridge of my nose and looser at the bottom (farther from my face. haven't had a problem in quite some time.

Interesting you should ask this question... (I must have missed it the first time around...)
My eyes are watery now (since CPAP started) no matter which mask I use, but only at night (but not every night) and when I first wake up. I initially attributed it to leaks from my Ultra Mirage Full Face and my Activa due leaks and air shooting into my eyes. But it also happened with the Swift and now the Breeze. My leak rate is low, so I have theorized the cause is the pressure (I'm at approx. 13cms., if that has any bearing) coming into my nose and forcing air up through my tear ducts thus causing my eyes to water. I have no idea if my theory has any basis in anatomical fact, but that's my story and I'm sticking with it.

During my first Sleep study the mask leaked near my eyes so much that my left eye was in bad shape by morning.
When I began fitting my Activa, I found that unless I was on the most open or flat setting adjustment between the forehead support and the mask holder, the pressure would leak out near my eye and irritates it a lot.
Check the small adjustment over the bridge area of the mask to see if you can flatten the mask another notch so the mask seal area near the eyes gets closer than it does now.

Roger...
nanato10...I have the opposite problem....if my mask isn't just right over my nose then I wake up with dry eyes....but then again I have had problems with dry eyes for years. I find that if the air seems to be leaking into my eyes then I just push the seal in on either side of the top of my nose....that seems to seal it better in that area. Did you know that when you have really dry eyes that they actually leak more...weird but true. The days I have really bad dry eyes...my eyes also leak on the outside of my eyes. My eyes are dry, but I have to keep wiping them off....
