my new machine my new friend

Post by o2sleep » Fri Oct 29, 2010 4:11 pm

Just got back from picking up my bipap. The RT has a brain and compassion, she said she was so excited to work with someone that was willing to educate themselves and to take charge of their treatment. My RX was for 22 over 16, she recommended that we set the machine to auto and look at the data together in two weeks and see what I REALLY so I don't have to rush to get my software and she will show me how to read it when I get it. That makes me feel more comfortable. My new "R2D2" as I call it is PR system One bipap auto with biflex, I think it will do the job just fine. I bought new jammies to celebrate

Hi,

Welcome to the BiPAP club. Well, it isn't actually a club, but it is still kind of cool to have a bi-level machine. What machine did you get? The photo in your profile shows a machine that is 2 generations old. I'd be surprised if a DME gave you that old of a machine, so I suspect you might have gotten one of the new PR System One machines. I'd love to try one of the PR System One machines, but I don't want to spend $2000 for that experience.

I have a new PR system One you were right John, I thought that is what I put up but now that I look at the pic that looks nothing like my machine. Changed my pic THAT is my machine. What do you think about the RT setting it to auto?

Hi,

I am personally a bit skeptical about a BiPAP running on auto. I never tired my M-Series machine on auto, but I ran my S8 VPAP that way for about a week. The S8 never raised up to a pressure level where I felt good in the morning. After a week I was so out of it that I set it back to my titration pressure, and I felt much better overnight. But that might have been something fairly specific to me. Also, there is a tendency for APAP machines to get set up with a very wide pressure range, which makes them slow to respond. So, if you end up with a fairly tight pressure range, and you feel good, then it should be OK for you. If you don't feel good, or if the machine doesn't chase down events, then you know that it needs to be adjusted further.

John that is exacty what the RT said, so we are going to look at the data in two weeks. Last night was a good night when I looked at the machine it was only at 12cm and my therapy hours were 7.9 out of 8.1 that I ran the machine. THAT was amazing since I only had 68 threrapy hours from Sept. 6 until yesterday when I turned my cpap over to the DME. I felt good this morning because I did not have that uncomfortable pressure under my mask when I exhaled, mask leaks, farting face, etc. and I slept longer than I have ever slept in I don't know how long. I know I had some REM which is so new to me. I think that I will want my pressure to start off a bit higher than 4cm because the higher pressure does feel better to me and I do think it took awhile to get up to the 12cm. I also suspect I need a pressure higher than 12cm but I will take last night as just a good nights sleep. I am so excited that I will be hands on in deciding what works best for me.
