Quattro full face

Post by pdean44 » Wed Oct 27, 2010 7:07 pm

I have a quattro full face mask that I am trying to get to work. I have the dreaded sore bridge of my nose. I guess I wore it a bit too tight last night.

Will have to seek out some tips on using this mask.

There is this gel thingee that goes over the bridge of the nose that helps. It's sold on cpap.com and i get it through my DME. It's covered by my insurance,so check to see if it is covered by your insurance also. I think they will be sending me one each month.

I love my Quattro FFM. I do find I have to take off the pillow part each morning and put it in a little plastic basin, put in hot water (not boiling, just warm to hot tap water, a squirt of plain old johnson's baby shampoo -- the plain stuff (yellow) and let it sit for a couple minutes, then I rinse and after suds are gone I fill little plastic tub with warm to hot tap water, and put in a a little vinegar (should be about 10 parts water to 1 part vinegar). Let that sit a couple minutes and then pour out, and put pillow part on paper towels to dry.

I rinse off the gel thingee that goes over bridge of the nose -- instructions say to NOT use too hot of water on that -- makes it sticky or something.

I find if I do that I have virtually no leaks.

Here it is -- it's the Sleep Comfort Care Pad -- I've used it since Day 1 and have never had a mark or problem over my nose -- have some funny lines in the morning -- but some days it's hard to tell the morning mask lines from the WRINKLES!

Also, I've learned not to have that thing on too loose or too tight. So if I'm in "leak city" which hasn't happened since I started my new wash/rinse routine in the mornings, what I do is lay down, put the mask on my face, and loosen up everything and see how that is -- because I had a tendency before to crank that thing down on my face like a VISE!!!

How do you know what size to order they have large or small. I wear a medium so i am thinking large to be safe?

After wearing my Quattro for a while and getting the sore nose bridge, I found that if I verrrrry carefully wiggled it up a bit once it was seated, it made the difference between having a sore nose, and not.

Took some time messing around to do it right, and of course it might work on my face and no one elses ...

Not wearing the Quattro any more, switched to the Mirage Liberty hybrid and am glad not to have the third and fourth eye impressions on my forehead in the morning. Also, breathing through my nose rocks!

I have the same mask.
I use a band aid on the bridge of my nose before I place the mask on at night.
The Quattro is the only mask that will seal (so far) for me, so I am actully happy the only issue I have is a cheap-o band aid.
Or should I say "adhisive strip" to be P.C.

The quattro uses the air pressure to help it seal. So having the straps to tight is not a good thing.

Start with the mask dialed as far away from your nose as possible and then lower until it stops leaking. This is called...minumim leak technique, the directions recomend two clicks lower than this. Also if the cusion gets oily, it tends to slide and needs tighter straps to prevents leaks. Wash your cushion daily with Dawn or some other dishsoap to remove this oil, it will make your cushion sticky like when it was new and require less strap pressure.. The gel cushion looks good too. I use Remzzs cloth liners and this really helps prevent marks and keeps facial oil off my cushion. Good Luck.

If you search "Quattro" here you'll get tons of tips.

In a nut shell, too tight is bad. If the mask is too low on your face, you get a nose sore. The bottom of the seal should just be under your bottom lip, not on your chin.

Tighten the top straps just until the bridge stays put. Too tight and you'll have a mark in the morning, too loose & the mask will shift on your face.

Start with the bridge adjustment at max. Lay down with the mask on and pick it up a few times to get it on your face just right. If you drag the seal over your bottom lip, it will help give you a reference, should feel the mask close to the corners of your mouth. Purse your lips, connect the hose and pressure up. Adjust the bridge until it stops leaking in your eyes. Disconnect the hose, lift & Re-seat the mask, purse your lips & reconnect. You should be leak free. If you leak at your mouth, tighten the bottom straps a little. You should be able to adjust everything while on your back and then roll your head left or right without leaking.

The Quattro seal "inflates" so too tight and it can't work properly and it is uncomfortable.

Once you have it all tweaked just right, put a little sharpie mark on the head gear so when you wash it, you can set it back like you had it. Headgear with stretch over time so you might have to snug it occasionally.

There is definitely a sweet spot for adjustment. It took me a good while to find it and figure it all out but now I'm good without any nose padding and morning marks.

FWIW, when I had my sleep study, the tech told me, mash the mask against your face & then tighten the straps.= No wonder people hate FFM.

So far it seems to leak if i have the straps loose. From what you folks are saying I have it way too tight. I really appreciate the tips. The mask is giving me a real tough time. My nose is pretty sore. I have been wearing a bandaid for the last 2 nights on my nose.

That Is what I have been doing too as well. Will give this a try tonight.

I got the pad all ready on the mail and cant seem to get the mask to seal over it. So that seems to be a no go. I did though follow a lot of the other tips and had a much more successful sleep last night. I don't have all the bugs worked out yet but am getting closer. I really appreciate the advice I was given on this. My nose did not hurt all night so that is a step in the right direction and i minimized most of the leak problems. I still have some minor tweaking but am getting there.

I still seem to have higher leak rates than I would like so wil be working on that to see if i can get that better.

sorry the comfort pad didn't work out for you -- maybe it works better for me because i have a flat spot between my eyes (almost like some asians do) where I notice by your pic that your nose bridge continues up between your eyes (you and my cousin Russell have the same nose!) (this nose bridge thingee makes it really difficult to fit me with glasses, but it's a nice flat spot to put that comfort pad). Also, I did obtain better seal when I didn't put that comfort pad up too high.

But it sounds like you're getting it figured out. I notice there were some GREAT posts on how to properly put on and adjust the headgear.

Good luck!
