Looking for a New Machine

Post by tlc95066 » Sat Oct 23, 2010 2:07 pm

Hi All,
It has been a really long time since I have posted here. I can truly say that I could not have made it though my first few months on CPAP without this forum. The information and comradarie was and still is amazing.

I currently have a Remstar Auto that has over 13000 hours on it and while there is technically nothing wrong with it i think it is time to upgrade, technology has changed a lot. I am looking at two different machines and would love to hear "the good, the bad and the ugly" about either based on your experience. The two machines are the IntelliPAP Auto and the S8 Auto II.

I was tracking my results on a monthly basis, but now i rarely look at the data, but likely should and may. I need a humidifier for comfort and I already have Sleep Zone heated tube, so I don't have issues with rainout. As a matter of fact my heated tube is 5 years old and still working like a clock!

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Sleep to you all!
Teri

Hi,
I have a new IntelliPAP AutoAdjust with Smartflex. It is a wonderful machine with easy to use software. For the price, you can't go wrong with it. It is the best selling auto machine on cpap.com. Your second choice is an S8, and while I hear it is a great machine, I believe the card and card reader for that model is proprietary and very hard to get now that the S9 is out. The Intellipap uses a standard SD card and can be read by any card reader. I have the software installed on my little Eeee netbook and use the built in SD card reader on the side of it.

I purchased my machine at http://www.secondwindcpap.com as they had a very good deal on the machine and humidifier together. I think that offer is still going on....but cpap.com may match it if you inquire.

Good luck with whichever new machine you choose!!

I've owned both and liked both. The Resmed software is a little more flexible if you want to zoom in to look more closely at smaller time periods than the whole night, but otherwise I think both machines are great.

Far be it from me to talk you out of a fully data capable Resmed (I've LOVED each of my Resmeds). BUT - be sure first that you can get the needed proprietary cable reader for the S8 II for downloading your data to software on your 'puter. The software isn't a problem to get but the cable reader is becoming more and more scarce as the S8s and S8 IIs are phased out.

So you've had your Respironics Auto at least 4 years? Approaching 5 years? Or have you had it a full 5 years yet? Most insurances will replace a CPAP/APAP at 5 years. If insurance is paying for this new CPAP you want, why aren't you considering the Resmed S9 AutoSet? PR SystemOne Auto? As well as the DeVilbiss IntellilPAP Auto??

My computer says I need to upgrade my brain to be compatible with its new software.

I'm a huge fan of the S8 and have a second as backup. But as other's noted, you need the proprietary card reader and it is difficult to get. Recently someone had 4-5 on sale on eBay. I'm not familiar with the newer S9 but most folks rave about it and that would be a good option. I don't think there's much difference in price btw the S9 and S8.

Thank you for your responses. I have actually have had my current maching since 11/2004 and my insurance will cover the cost but it is only at 50% reimbursment rate. I will take a look at the the other machines that were recommended.
Thanks,
Teri

With reimbursement of only 50% of cost you are just about GUARANTEED to get a better PAP for less money by buying online either from our host cpap.com or other - just keep in mind that our host, cpap.com, will price match any online advertised price.

The Resmed S9 sure packs a great punch (the good kind).

It's worth a look!

Full on-screen options for night to night feedback, EPR, etc!

Whoa...

Looks good!

Congrats on your Intellipap -- I love mine -- I like the size, it's compact for traveling. It's the only machine I've had, but it just completely fits my needs, and pretty soon I'll be buying another one just to have a backup on hand.
