I am Pisssed-Card Reader for Resmed S8 mach
Re: I am Pisssed-Card Reader for Resmed S8 mach
Whether you "buy into it" or not - the fact remains: "Restricted to or on the order of a physician". You can butt your head against a brick wall, spend a fortune w/attorneys to try to get around it - or - use the current methods at our disposal to obtain the software, etc. that you need. Others here have done it. So can you. If you set your mind to it. Since production f the S8s and S8 IIs have been discontinued, so has the production of the necessary proprietary cable reader. BUT - they are still out there if you just keep looking for them. NEVER underestimate the innovation and capabilities of a determined PAP user.

Since they wouldn't sell me the software, I downloaded it for free.
They didn't get my hundred bucks. I can handle that.
Of course, I'm considering a different manufacturer for my back-up equipment.

And in the mean time us informed cpaper's are made to feel like we are outlaws by our own government and companies like Resmend. We inform each other how to take control of our own health with information about how to control machines and mask to get a better nights sleep. Bidding on mask parts on Ebay so we can put together a full mask at a reasonalble price without paying full retail at a local DME. You can bet your bottom dollar that Resmed would shut this forum down and others like it if they could. They want you going to the local DME and paying the max from someone who knows less than you do about OSA.Slinky wrote:Whether you "buy into it" or not - the fact remains: "Restricted to or on the order of a physician". The problem is we have too many that want to be lead by the hand from cradle to grave by government officials. They are perfectly willing to take what their Doctor and DME say without doing any research on the subject at hand. It pisses me off to no end that they are willing to be herded like mindless sheep but that's the State of the Union today.
Anyways, thats how I feel. Have a nice day!

Right on, ChunkyFrog.
It can be interesting to have a different manufacturer's PAP model for a backup. I've done that. Much as I love my Resmeds, I've bought the pre-M Series Respironics Auto and BPAP Auto (wouldn't touch the M Series w/a 10 foot pole). And until just recently I was letting my Resmed S8 VPAP Auto set in its case ready to go out the door on trips whilst I used a PR SystemOne BPAP Auto w/Bi-Flex. Hey, much as I love my Resmeds - I REALLY like that PR S1 BPAP Auto, I wasn't at all happy about having to surrender it. *sigh*
But then there is the hassle (it can be done, I managed) of obtaining both manufacturer's software and learning to use each software (I hate learning new software).

Rescan Printout
Product: VPAP Auto 25
4/16/2009 - 10/16/2010 I got the machine in December 2009
Days not used: 371 Total days: 549 Median daily usage: 6:30 Did I get a used machine?
Total hours used: 1149:24 Average daily usage: 2:05
Rooster, according to the Rescan done by the DME, my Vpap Auto 25 had many more hours than I used it for. It had 8 months of use when I got it. What recourse do I have? United Health Care expects, I think, that the machines their insureds get are brand new, that way there will be less repairs. When I asked if the DME could take back the Resmed and get me a Repsironics, the RT at the DME said, "No, you own your machine." I am not sure how to begin to approach this but I got my machine in Dec 09 and its use began on 4/16/09.

I hope I am not being a pest...
On the pressure graph, it just shows the IPAP, not the EPAP.
On the AHI graph it shows AHIs of 12, 9, 9, 15,21,26,25,17,25, 28, 8, 20, 25, 26, over 40, 32, 31, 32, 29, 13, 27, n/a, n/a/ n/a n/a, 28, 30 and Rescan comes up with an Aveerage AHI of 13.4. It should have been 22.7! Unless I am looking at the graph incorrectly. I went to the top of the AHI boc for each day.
I don't know what Tidal Volume is but 6 of the 23 days hit the top and the rest are from the half point up.
Wow, a 22.7 AHI is terrible.

Thanks to all of you who found the ebay offering. I ordered it yesterday but was afraid to broadcast it for fear that Resmed would close it down like they closed down all the others.
Re: I am Pisssed-Card Reader for Resmed S8 mach
You are very fortunate to be able to buy it from ebay. When I clic on a cpap item it opens a window who says: Unfortunately, access to this particular listing or item has been blocked due to a Paris commercial court decision ... bla bla bla.

The nightly AHI graph shows you AHI per each hour separately -- if you want the average AHI per night you have to get the numbers from the statistics screen - that calculation is based on whole nights.allend wrote:I hope I am not being a pest...

The statistics screen lets you choose the time period for calculating the parameters, any time period you choose, including choosing by dates (from to)
The "detail" graphs can be set by you to focus on very very short periods -- as low as 10 seconds at a time. I find a 10 minute period focus very helpful when I'm looking for the relationship between ResScan reported events and my SPO2 reported desaturations. (The SPO2 charts can be set at a very fine resolutions as well).
ResScan gives you length of time (in seconds) for each apnea reported -- and the percent of time spent in apnea per night.

Re: I am Pisssed-Card Reader for Resmed S8 mach
The pressure in the pressure graph is NOT the IPAP pressure. It is the midpoint pressure between IPAP and EPAP during the night.
And, yup, whoever set your APAP up doesn't understand Pressure Support - or intended that you receive just straight pressure.

Did you determine if this was because they were actively prevented from selling, or whether it was simply the case that the stock of Resmed readers was finally exhausted?allend wrote:I just heard from Cpap Australia that they cannot sell the S8 card reader any longer.

It's noted on cpapaustralia's website - "cannot be shipped outside Australia".

I've got an S8 reader I purchased in March that I no longer need. My S8 was exchanged for an S9.
