s9 for sale

Post by hummer3d » Wed Oct 20, 2010 7:05 am

I was on Craigs list yesterday and there was a New S9 elite with humidifier hose and mask new for $500.00. I thought wow thats a great deal so i repied to add and askedf it was an auto set? I got a reply back it wasnot , but the seller was geting in an s9 auto set next week and she could sell it the same way with humidifier ,hose and mask for just $550. How can someone sell theese this cheap? I think i want to get a new s9 auto . My current cpap is S8 elite with humidifire. Is the s9 a lot better? Other than beieng auto set?

I don't know if the S9 is a better PAP than the S8. I know the S8 is one heck of a good PAP!!! I've had the S8 Elite, S8 AutoSet Vantage and the S8 VPAP Auto and loved every one of them.

If you can afford it, I'd keep that S8 Elite II as a backup PAP and buy an S9 AutoSet. I'm taking a guess that it could be quite likely these S9s being offered are very lightly used, someone failed to meet their compliance and returned them. Once they are used the local DME providers can't sell them as new.

HOWEVER, I would want to know the Serial Number and the number of actual hours on it. I would also want to be able to go to the site and inspect the S8 Auto myself to make sure of condition and hours. I just wouldn't buy off of craigslist unless I could inspect the article in person.

All S9s would still be under warranty given they have a 2 year warranty and they haven't been available in the US that long yet. Unlike Respironics' warranty which starts when received by the local DME provider, Resmed's warranty starts w/the date it is first provided to the original user (patient).

There was a discussion and posting of both manufacturers' warranties some time ago in this forum.

I'd email the address on Craigslist and ask them all the pertinent questions. If there is any hesitancy at all to provide the info, back off and don't touch it.

I have read on this forum that Resmeds have to be sent in for warrranty work by the DME. Is that right? I can't believe a DME would use Craigslist to sell new machines.

This only proves to go ahead and get a autoset S9. You can always reset the autoset to CPAP only. But you can not set the CPAP to autoset.

Hum,
I buy and sell A LOT using E-Bay, PayPal and Craigs List.

#1 There is a TREMENDOUS markup on these machines. In some cases 4 to 5 times the wholesale cost. That's why so many incompetents get into the used car, oh sorry , the DME business.

#2 My first question is- Is this seller within driving distance? You could go and turn on the machine and see if the hours are 0.

#3 Sometimes we are so suspicious that we miss out on great bargains. I recently bought a complete S9 AutoSet for $525. I paid through PayPay using my credit card. PayPal will do a lot for you if you buy through E-Bay, (Buyer protection Plan), but not much if you buy through other sellers. Many sellers do not know this and you can bluff them into making good on their sale. If I was screwed I still have my credit card, (in my case Pentagon Federal Credit Union Visa), to dispute the sale and get my money back. I have used them 3x and gotten my money back every time. There are hassles such as, you have to wait 30 before you can file a claim but it works if you are patient. If the seller was selling an Elite and next week she will have an Auto, chances are she will take a credit card or has a PayPal account where you can pay her using your credit card.

#4 As for warranty, the ResMed salesman was in my doctor's office waiting for me to leave so he could talk to the doctor. I asked him about the warranty and he said to call him and he would take care of it for a small fee. Growing up in NYC I quickly learned that cash will work wonders. It is rarely turned down.. Be aggressive without being nasty.

Good luck,
Ed

Really ? How do you know what the DME pays ResMed for the units ? How do you know the wholesale cost ?

Let's see. Last February, I bought an S8, H4i and Mirage mask from cpap.com for around $850. This was after I'd called all eight medical equipment suppliers that were authorized by my insurance companies. All of which quoted me a price of $2600 to $3400 for exactly the same equipment. My insurance covers 80% 'in network' and 60% 'out of network'. While I don't know the wholesale cost, I'm sure this is typical of the supplier market. Too bad there's no laws protecting the consumer from price gouging in the medical field.

I just bought an S9 from my DME for $800. That included the humidifier and the slimline hose. I was so shocked that the price was that low that I bought it immediately. I'm SO glad I did.
