Another Swift FX question
I realize everyone's nose and face shape is different. I am trying out the Swift FX for her, I am having trouble deciding the best size to use. I have kind of a average size nose and nostrils, what is the size that most women are comfortable with? Night #1, I used the small night 2 the medium and I'm still not sure. I do lave the fact that there is nothing on mt forehead.

Re: Another Swift FX question
I have the Swift LT for her as well. It took me a while to find the right size but now I use the small. I would say it took me a good week or two before I made my decision. I have noticed that I don't like sleeping with the tube attached to the clip on top of my head. It pulls on my nose up too much. I have tried to attach it at different points on the hose but now I just leave it free running up my pillow and over my head board. I love this mask so much by the way! Only a couple of night have I been woken up because of a leak. Just keep trying the sizes for a few nights in a row each. You will figure out what works. I hope this helps!

Re: Another Swift FX question
I am also using an FX/FX for Her mask.
In order to figure out which size pillows do better for me, I'm alternating between XS and S pillows. One night I use XS and the next I use S. Have only been doing this for 6 days, so I don't really have enough data to indicate which is better in terms of leaks or AHI. Quite frankly, I can't really physically tell much difference in the size, but so far: The XS seems to be easier to make my nostrils happy, but the S seems to be easier to get a good seal and make my eyes and lips happy.

I wore the medium with the opus 360, and was surprised to find that the small fit me on the swift fx..

Re: Another Swift FX question
My detailed leak data tend to show that I do develop a few leaks on most nights. The detailed leak data also show that somewhere between 10 and 20 minutes after a leak starts, I seem to fix it in about 10--30 seconds without me being conscious of waking up to fix it. So my guess is that the leaks are triggering some kind of arousal that does not last long enough to register in my conscious mind. The number of "leak fixes" plus the number of apnea/hypopnea events is way, way below the number of RERAs (respiratory event related arousals) that occurred in my baseline study.
ResScan shows that my leak rate seldom ever gets up to ResScan's redline and my median leak rate has been 0.0 on every night since my first night with the CPAP machine. Hence, I'm pretty sure that my leaks are not interfering too much with my therapy.
So for now, "leaks" are a problem that I'm choosing to not get stressed out about.

Re: Another Swift FX question
I know I'm not using the "Her" version, but still the FX. I had to switch between the small and medium every couple of nights for almost a month. I finally landed on the medium. It took that long before I got it dialed in with the right size, pressure my face could take without discomfort, and best position for straps. I now have very low air leak. (median not measurable, 95th percentile very low)
In the beginning I had many leak awakening every night. Some from incorrect strap tension, and others due to lack of hose management.

Hi, I have the fx for her and I really like it if I can get it to stop leaking. You have given me hope though that in time as I get used to it I might not have any leaks, thanks! I also have been switching between the small and the medium. I find that the medium puts too much pressure in my nostrils. makes them really blown up, but they seal better than the small.
I have a crease on the top of my nose[ between the eyes] where the air pressure has pushed the nostrils up so tight!
I will keep trying, thanks so much for your help.

Re: Another Swift FX question
I think if have strange-shaped face - I think my eye orbits are more toward the side then most people, with the result that I can't really snug
up the Swift FX to seal without having the silicone strap right against the edge of my eye orbits.
I have very wide and large eye orbits, so the instrucutional vidieo doesn't really help me.
I think that the problem is, is that the nasal pillows work best when pointed more vertically upward, which is impossible if that means that the strap will obstruct your eyes.
In other words, the Resmed video on how to fit this mask is a bunch of bull. It only works for certain people with a certain geometry of face.
The only solution I've found is to use the velcro and/or plastic to position the silicone part of the strap so that it stays behind my eyes, and then twist the nasal prongs from horizontal to more vertical ( and do the usual lifting and resetting to hopefully get a nice seal (yeah right)).
What I've been doing is adjusting the straps so that the silicone head-strap deoesn't slip into my eyes, but then sort or twisting the nasal prongs more vertical, so that sometimes they seal. The problem is that the mask isn't really designed for that, so that I think that what's happening is that once I fall asleep, te angle of the pillows gets more horizontal again- hence the leak and the hiss and the awakening. ... It it's getting tiring ... I long for the days when I slept through the night..
ay
Getting into a bit of trouble with my day job for for working short hours, so I would love to get this resoloved. but I realize it's no so easy... The science and technology is just not there yet.

The thing leaks all the time. I'm seriously trying to understand why waking up several times a night to spend 15 minutes or more trying to adjust the damn
mask is some how more healthy than simply sleeping mormallly, I long for the pre-PAP days where, although I was sometimes and hour late for work, now I'm two or three. I've allready given up. All in all, for far CPAP has made my symptoms worse.
But I guess my plan is to hear if I heard from someone in the industry who knows what the hell they're talking about, who can help my dx the problem.
If not, I say to hell with it. I would rather have a short life with at least some periods of energy and enjoyment, then a life with CPAP when every day, waking up is an awful nightmare.

I hear you Larry,I hear you, this thing sometimes gets almost beyond control!!!! I have been trying to use the c-pap since jan.2006!! I have had many problems that most people don't have but let me tell you now, it's all worth it!!!
I want to live for my self now and my family and i will do what ever it takes to do so because I love them.
I really don't think it's possible for you to have any more problems than i have had and if you have read much on this forum you know that c-pap takes time, but it does work.
I am slowly making progress and you can too!!
I wish you the best of luck. GOD BLESS YOU!
