Did a Stupid Thing Last Night
Mebbe Calist is right. Mebbe I AM stupid:
Got up this morning after a good night's sleep. It being Saturday, I thought I'd download my weekly data and have a look. Wanted to see how much the thunderstorm last night disturbed my sleep before I actually awoke and got up to watch the fireworks. You can tell a lot about your sleep from looking at the flow trace.
So I turned the S9 off and removed the SD card and stuck it in the USB SD card adapter, plugged it into the USB slot on the front of my 'puter and fired it up. Started ResScan, and while I waited, stared at that eye staring back at me. Wonder who she is. Maybe the founder's granddaughter? And wonder why she's staring at me like that? What is she thinking? And why did ResScan opt for that rather disturbing great big eye looking at the user? I'd prefer to see her whole face. Or better yet, maybe the model in a swimsuit reclining on the sand beneath a palm tree.
Was suddenly shaken from my reverie by an error message saying there was no card in the reader. What the . . . ? I looked, and it was there, label side up, just like always. The card was inserted in the reader all the way. I ejected the reader and tried it in another slot. Got another error message. Tried a USB thumb drive, and it worked. Hmmm . . .
So I plugged the reader back in and looked in "My Computer" for Drive E. It showed up, but when I double clicked on it, I just got an hourglass. It wouldn't open. Re-booted the computer, lost the active desktop, had to recover twice before the system stabilized. That made me think that maybe a viral pathogen has gotten into my system. But I have AVG anti virus loaded and it's up to date, so I scanned the whole computer and all attached drives. . 45 minutes later I got the "all clear." But still, ResScan and my computer said there was no card in the reader.
Started thinking maybe it's time to build another computer. This one's 6 years old and technology has passed it by (Epia 800/Win 2K). It's barely adequate to run ResScan 3.11. Slow like molasses in January. Pulled the USB reader from the slot and received an angry message from Windoze to the effect that I shouldn't have done that. Hey, there's no card in the reader, so what's the problem? Thoroughly perplexed, and wondering if I needed to re-load my operating system, I happened to look down at the reader, lying upside-down in my hand. And staring back at me were nine little copper pads on the exposed end of the SD card protruding from the reader.
I put the SD card in the reader backwards.

That's not really stupid. I'm sure it happens a lot (I know I've done it).
Stupid would be having a partner who also has apnea and rigging up a Y output tube so that one machine could power two masks. Or even thinking of such a thing...

Sometimes even the most intelligent person's brain zooms past the obvious. It happens to all of us.
I consider myself a reasonably intelligent person (Don't call me stupid) -- Hee Hee. Years ago, in my much younger days, I used to use frozen concentrated orange juice. I bought a different brand than normal and when I went to open it, it didn't have that white pull tab that my regular brand had. I looked at it and scratched my head, totally perplexed. How in the heck was I gonna open this thing??? I finally walked downstairs to a friends apartment and explained my problem to her, begging her to help me figure it out. She looked at me like I had done lost my mind, then she realized that her usually fairly intelligent friend was totally clueless. She gently grabbed my arm and walked me over to her kitchen counter and opened the can of orange juice with her electric can opener.
That was a brain fart moment if I've ever had one!

Re: Did a Stupid Thing Last Night
Thanks for the kind words. BTW, the stats were great. Two OSAs and one hypopnea all night. I've run the min. pressure up to just below where it seems to want to stay all night when running wide open in APAP mode. I've got a month of data now, so I'm pretty comfortable that I've got it. Sleep lab said 10. Doc wrote 11 on the prescription. I'm running at 8.6 minimum and leaving the top at 20. When I go CPAP mode at 11 I start seeing central apneas appear and I don't sleep as well.
Re: my brain phart, I suppose it was just that, but I came this close to reformatting my hard drive and re-installing Windows and all my software, then reloading all my data through a USB 1.1 device. That would have taken me all day. And for what? Overlooking the obvious.
Dumb!

Don't worry. I have done this. I am an engineer, so I am supposed to know better. I spent almost 3 hours trouble shooting this. Apparently, some days, I am not all that good of an engineer.

One of the car manufacturers, I think it is Honda, always manufacturers its parts asymmetrically so that it is impossible to attach them wrong, and obvious which orientation is correct. I wish more manufacturers would latch onto this concept. It's really not that difficult.
Re: Did a Stupid Thing Last Night
hey, do some experiments in different positions.. I thought my pressure was about ten, but its four or less on my stomach or sides!
I cant believe it!
and, hey you figured it out.. so good on you..
I couldnt find my keys today, they were under my ass..

Re: Did a Stupid Thing Last Night
I'm a side sleeper usually. Pressure usually trends down when I'm on my side and lies against the minimum pressure set level, about 8.6, until something kicks it up. I try to stay off my back 'cause I've found if I sleep in that position, I don't move and end up with a backache the next morning. Funny thing about CPAP is that now that I can sleep in any position, I have to consciously NOT do so. In the B.C. years, I always slept on my side; couldn't sleep on my back or I'd wake up with dry mouth and the cat would be at the other end of the house under a pillow.elena88 wrote:hey, do some experiments in different positions.. Re: the keys, I know what you mean. I need reading glasses up close, but distance vision is fine, so I wear my half readers either low on my schnoz, or up in my hair, what's left of it. I don't know how many times I've looked all over the house or my office for my spare pair, only to put them on and find my glasses up on top 'my head.

I think I can match this. I need glasses for absolutely everything. In fact if I knock them off the bedside table I need to locate them by touch. And a few times in the morning I've found myself feeling around for the glasses that I was already wearing and looking through wondering why on earth I couldn't find them. I do admit I'm not a morning person.Slartybartfast wrote:I need reading glasses up close, but distance vision is fine, so I wear my half readers either low on my schnoz, or up in my hair, what's left of it. I also remember one very late night back in the days of 5 1/4 inch floppies when I carefully inserted the disc into the conveniently disc sized crack in the front of the computer housing instead of into the drive. I spent forever trying to figure out why I couldn't see my files and rebooting over and over and over. And then, once I figured it out, I spent even longer trying to figure out how to get the stupid disc back out again. For the rest of its life that computer had a big piece of tape crossing the treacherous opening.
I'm also a big fan of idiot proofed part shapes and connectors.
