I am looking to get a new apap and have narrowed my choices down to the ResMed S9 AutoSet and the PR System One REMstar and would like people's opinions on these machines. Whatever machine I get, I will be very involved in looking at my data, so please let me know how you like the software for each machine.
For me, it's important to have small size for traveling, an apap that is very quiet, and that has good rainout reduction. I used to be able to use my P&B APAP without the humidifier and then found it was needed. Burning nasal passages are just not pleasant to wake up to. Unfortunately, even with the humidifier, I now need an in-room humidifier as well and the rainout is absolutely ridiculous.
Any recommendations you can give for either of these machines, will be appreciated. While price is always a factor, I'm looking at this as more of a long term investment in a good nights' sleep. While I'm not pleased with the price control ResMed places on their equipment, that will not be a factor that would dissuade me from puchasing the machine IF it ranks higher than the REMstar.
Thanks all...

Re: APAP Opinions - S9 AutoSet vs. PR System One RemStar
HI
I am getting a PR one auto after 7 years on C-Pap because weight loss is changing my pressures. I have read every thing I can about these two machines and for me they both had features I liked but neither had every thing I wanted. In the end when the DME called to get a credit card to ship They had me set up for the PR one and I didn't argue. Some will say they don't like the price of the respironics soft ware but that is offset buy the higher price of the S-9. I liked the hose coming off the top on the Pr1 instead of the back of the S9. S9 is nicer looking and has a nicer screen with more info but in the end I just want to sleep well. I have ordered the software for the PR1
I am sure You'll be happy with which ever one you choose they are both quality machines. I must say I was happy the PR1 was made in the USA not that that makes it better but we need to keep jobs here now
EDIT: There are some nice videos on you tube by cpapchoice on the PR1 that I enjoyed watching.

You indicate that the humidification system, and rainout protection are important to you. I haven't used the S9, but note that many on this forum have complained about the short life of the S9's heated hose. Without that heated hose, the S9's rainout protection is no different from any other xpap on the market and you may need to get an ozzy hose (or alternative) for it.
The PR System One's rainout protection works by changing humidifier output, and it does not use a heated hose. My experience is that it works well and I've heard of no reliability complaints about it.
On the downside, the provided carry case for the PR System One is a piece of junk. For travel, you will need to invest in something more substantive than that provided by PR.
One other thing, you've indicated that you will not sway your choice of machine just because of Resmed's pricing policy. If you live outside of the USA, I recommend that you re-think this decision. You cannot buy Resmed products online because Resmed won't allow online sellers to export out of the USA. Thus, if you're not in the USA, you will be stuck with paying usurous DME prices for the Resmed equipment and supplies. If you are in the USA, or if you have a really generous insurance carrier, then you can ignore this issue.

I'm workin' on it.

On a very popular web-site the S-9 is rated as quiet, (24 decibles) the System
One says "no" in that comparison column(29 decibles). The S-9 is $124 more than System One, but System One has additional $112 for software. The Resscan 3.11 can be downloaded for free! Insurance will not pay for the software! I have used the Resmes Escape and it is rated at 31 decibles, and it is quite loud to me after using the S-9. I did have a climateline hose develope a leak at the user end and sent it back for replacement. There are threads here showing how people have fixed the end, but I will wait till near end of warranty and give it a good check-over. I think Resmed will redesign the hose to fix the problem. I do like the small outer diameter of the climateline hose and slimline hose for the S-9. It will also accept the standard hose used by all other manufacturers. I have no experience with the System One, and do like the fact it is made in the USA! The Resmed mask I just purchased was made in China, appeareantly even Australia outsources. jlk
