Back-up mask
Back-up mask
I see that several people have a back-up mask. Do you have a duplicate of your primary mask or something completely different? I've just realized that I should probably have back-up seals for mine at the very least. If you have something different from your primary mask what is your reasoning?

Re: Back-up mask
Some people on nasal masks have a full face mask as a back up so that if they have a stuffy nose they can use that mask, or if their primary mask breaks, they've still got a mask.
Some people use a different mask from the primary because they have tried a couple of different masks and can't afford to duplicate the primary mask, so they use one of the less desirable masks as a back-up.

Re: Back-up mask
I have different masks just because I need to break up the norm once in a while. I tried quite a few before I found one that I liked enough to use most of the time. I want to try the Opus so I won't be so dependent on Resmed anymore. If that doesn't work, I will try the Sleepweaver.
I am in the market for a FF mask. I need one for when I am sick and the Oracle didn't work for me. I'm considering the ZZZ, the Liberty and the FullLife.

Re: Back-up mask
I keep a drawer full of masks. I like to change. My favorite one day may not be my favorite the next. It took me a long time to get used to a nasal pillow but now they are mostly my favorites but I do like to change around a bit. I like the sleep weaver. It is the only one my husband will keep on.

I have a duplicate of my regular nasal mask, and a full face mask for times of congestion. I do have a couple of other masks that I revisit occasionally, just for a change.

- I have several RespCare Hybrid masks; 3 for me & 1 that I loan out via our local forum meetup group.
- I have 2 of my old beloved Respironics OptiLife masks in the likely vain hope that I can one day wear it again without losing therapy air via loose lips.
- I have a ResMed Liberty, the other hybrid-style mask, in case I ever need it tho I it leaks no matter what I do.

Re: Back-up mask
I do not have a duplicate of my primary mask. I sort of "borrowed" it from my Dad and I am planning on waiting until he asks for it back. He didn't like it though, so I should be good until he gets congested or something.
I have three nasal masks that I can use, they are all the same. One I got from the sleep study, one from the DME when I started and a new one from the DME at 6 months. Also I have another nasal mask that I hate, not sure what it is called because I got it from the sleep study and don't have any paperwork on it.

Re: Back-up mask
I have a FX and a backup FX with about a half a dozen nose pillows. I have a Mirage Quattro full face and a Mirage Liberty. I have never slept with the Quattro or the Liberty. I have tried them on and used them while watching TV but thats all. I don't know, for now I'll hang with the FX and just take the other two out of the package every once and a while and play with them.
Re: Back-up mask
I have two primary masks, one nasal and one FF, that I rotate around when I get tired of (fill in the blank: mouth taping, sore nose bridge, ffm leaks, congestion problems, ...). My nasal mask has tons of replacement parts at home (edit: I have a full duplicate of the nasal mask as a spare) but my ffm has none. I also have some failed masks sitting around that I should give away but they are a few years old. (I am a pack rat, what can I say? I only recently threw away the first (crappy) mask I received during my titration, 3 years ago!)

Re: Back-up mask
I am one of those people that has found ONE mask that works for me, so I am loyal to it. I have several new ones in reserve for when my primary decides it's calling it quits on me. But I always get the same model since it's the only one I've found that works for me.

Re: Back-up mask
Thanks for all the replies! I am new to this and the only mask I have is the one shown below which I find works well. I had tried a loaner which was a F&P Zest but I found it just would not stay put and I constantly had to adjust it. I have a deviated septum as well and the mask would slip enough to block one nostril and cause me to stuff up so when I purchased my unit I got a different mask. The therapist explained that the nasal pillows would be more drying to the sinuses so I decided not to get those.
So it sounds like a good back-up would be a FFM for times of congestion. My insurance will cover a new mask once every 6 months so I guess that is one way to get different masks. I also see that it's much cheaper to buy them on-line than from the sleep clinic.

Re: Back-up mask
Just to be redundant with prior posts - full face masks are a must as a back up if at all possible. If/when you get a cold or are severely congested, the FF mask may very well help you get the rest you need.
Re: Back-up mask
I have the Swift II as my Primary Mask but I also have the Swift LT and the Mirage Liberty Hybrid FF mask for Back up should the need arise but I am comfortable with the Swift II that I have used Primarily for three years. The Swift LT is new and unused as of yet and i use the Hybrid FF when I have congestion.

Re: Back-up mask
Hi--I have back up hoses and tubing too--you never know when a pin hole will develop.I have 4 cats---with their claws still in tact!! LOL! I have the Swift LT for her as my primary mask with 2 brand spanking new ones still in the bags tucked in my linen closet. My other "back up" mask is that new Swift FX that everyone thinks is so cool. I tried to use it but keep getting awake hearing hissing sounds from some small leaks that happen when I move from side to side. So I only try it out once a week or so to see if I can get it to work for me. it is a comfy mask --practically not even there at all.
that is my story--:)
