Help with Installing Encore Pro

Post by ugogirl » Thu Sep 23, 2010 3:49 pm

I am having trouble installing this software. I get to the point where the InstallShield Wizard is installing the SQLServer. I wait quite a few minutes and then see a pop-up that says "Installation of SQL Server Express failed". Then the whole thing stops and closes. Any help would be appreciated. I don't know what the SQL Server Express is!

Thanks.

Alright, OK, I'll tell you that you need to fix the SQL server installation so that it doesn't fail. I don't mean to be smart, but I don't know why it is failing. Maybe someone who has installed it before (I haven't) knows more about what could go wrong.

For starters I would ask you if there is another error message that you are not relaying to us? Sometimes users ignore messages they don't understand and click past them. If you try it again and get another message, you could put it here and it might help.

Did you check the disk space requirements and other installation requirements to make sure your machine meets them?

SQL Server Express is a free version of Microsoft SQL Server (it's a database engine) which Encore Pro uses to store it's data. I had the same problems installing under Windows XP. I tried a number of times and never could get it installed. I ended up doing a fresh installation of Windows as a VirtualBox virtual machine (http://www.virtualbox.org) running in a window in my main OS. Encore then installed successfully the first try in the virtual machine. The version of Windows I installed was Windows 2003, not Windows XP. So either: 1. There is a problem installing Encore Pro with Windows XP; or more likely: 2. Something I had previously done in Windows XP was causing a problem.

Thanks Cyclone99, for that information. I went into My Computer to check if any SQL programs were listed and I found that "Microsft SQL Server" is listed:

Size: 65.7 MB
Type: File Folder
Folders: 100
Date modified: 9/24/2010 4:41PM

Seems like it's on the computer, but I don't know why it won't let the software install. I'll try again later when I have time to concentrate on it!

While SQL server may show up in different places, at least some will have one with Encore in the name.

For example, in Windows XP Pro Start|right-click My Computer|Manage|Services I have SQLAGENT$ENCORE.
However your installation probably isn't happening enough to show that.

There are several threads in this forum to wade through, installation can be troublesome, I'll check my archives for notes I may have kept.

From faded memory one thing to do is make sure you understand the options presented by the installation routine. You do want SQL Server despite being on a stand-alone machine, for example. (I don't know what will happen if you don't - I guess that Encore will complain because it needs SQL Server to have a database.)

That may not be a working installation though. If you got an error part way through the SQL Server installation, it may show up but not be working properly.

I'm running XP SP2, installed Dot Net 3.5 SP1 and the KB## hotfix and ran the WindowsInstaller 4.5
with several reboots along the way.
Whne I install, it hangs on building the database, the SQL2008 app is there in my start menu and there
is a database, but the Encore Database Installer hangs.
No other messages than Installation of Encore Pro 2 Database failed.
Tried it with Forms and Windows authentication.

I do see this in the Event log:
Product: Encore Pro 2 Database -- Error 27506.Error executing SQL script installdb.sql. Line 42. CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors. (1802)

No other useful info, like file names

tomd62,
That is exactly what i did to try and install the software. I also see the same in the Event Log. Not sure why this is happening either. I figured I'd get the EncoreViewer software. I don't think that requires a database.

I really think I should have the software. I had an app't with my sleep dr on Tuesday. He gave me a copy of the Compliance report that he used during my visit. Told me everything looked great (AHI of 3.5 is normal?). He doesn't want to see me for 6 months. I haven't heard a thing from the DME in 2 months and the dr told me they should have been in touch with me to see if I needed anything. I will have to spring for the software soon!

May I ask how you can get a hold of Encore Pro software? I would love it, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks.

Got it to install finally. I did not have enough room on C, only a mere 2Gig free.
So, I was doing a custom install to D: which had over 800GB free, well, it turns out
that the install uses C: as some sort of scratch or temporary storage when installing.
So I scraped another 6GB free on C: and it installed with 'typical' settings.
