How Much Did Your Sleep Study Cost?
Re: How Much Did Your Sleep Study Cost?
My Pulmonologist set me up with the sleep center. I asked him beforehand, how much would it cost me. He said don't worry, my insurance would pay for it.
I get the first study done, go back to the doc, then go for the second study. A few days after the second study, I get a bill in the mail from the sleep center for the FIRST study.
I open it up and read it, and can't believe my eyes! $5000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I call my doc's office and rant like a maniac! HOW DARE THEY send me for $10,000 worth of testing without telling me it's going to cost me that much!!!!!!!!!!!The woman I spoke to (yelled at) was very understanding, and outraged that I had received a bill. She called the sleep center and straightened everything out, and apoligized to me. Then the sleep center called me, and THEY apoligized to me!
In the end, my total cost for two nights of studies, @ $5000 each, was ~ $0 ~

For the two nights of the sleep study, my BCBS was billed $4,000. They paid $1,279 and I did not have to pay anything.

I live in Canada so the sleep study was covered by Canadian Medicare so the cost was 0.
Re: How Much Did Your Sleep Study Cost?
I also reside in Canada - cost of sleep study was Zero. CPAP machine & equipment was also supplied at no cost to me.

I had to go two nights in a row because the first night (that was supposed to be a split study) I slept a total of 87 minutes and never got to REM sleep. 2nd night for titration they gave me an Ambien. Appears that they charged $400 for the 1 Ambien pill ????

It cost me $0 because the V.A. fit the bill for me and gave me the machine! My study was only one night and it was at home then I just had to put in the mail on the V.A.'s dime!

Re: How Much Did Your Sleep Study Cost?
Our lab chargers just over $1500.00 for the sleep study. My girlfriends lab where she works charges 1400.00 for diagnostic, and then its a little higher if its a split-night study. Maybe everyone needs to come to Montana for their study!!..lol. I cant belive some charge over $2000.0!!

Re: How Much Did Your Sleep Study Cost?
My sleep studies were both under $900 each,
and the doc who interpreted them got under $500 for both diagnostic and titration studies.
Including deductible and co-pay, my cost was about $430, more or less.
Both pretty much billed what they got-between me and BCBS.
The sleep lab is also my DME.
They are pretty decent--but with only ResMed; no selection to speak of.

Re: How Much Did Your Sleep Study Cost?
I have no idea. My primary care Doctor recommended me to the sleep clinic and the insurance paid for it. I am retired and am enrolled in an HMO here in Oklahoma.
Re: How Much Did Your Sleep Study Cost?
3999.00 per night for a split study, no idea yet what insurance payed.
But i know my daughters sleep study 8-9 months ago was the same charge, We are both on medicaid so we don't usually hear what medicaid pays for it. Just what the bill is that is sent to them.

Re: How Much Did Your Sleep Study Cost?
I had my sleep study done here in Seoul, South Korea. This is not covered by any insurance. The first sleep study was about $600. I had a second, titration study which cost about $500. And finally I needed a daytime sleep study, which was about $400. It was interesting for me to note that the price of each study kept decreasing, whereas it seemed the amount of work they did was increasing with each study. This price included the sleep study itself and the doctor fees.
Now, a couple of years ago, I inquired at a local sleep center in the USA for my daughter. I was trying to determine what the total fee was, and what would be her responsibility after insurance. I don't remember the exact numbers, but it was around say $1200 total for the study (but her insurance paid something like 60% of that fee). At the time, I didn't have insurance, and was considering a sleep study myself. So I asked the clerk, "so, if I walk in off the street with no insurance and pay cash, it will be $1200?" She said not at all - that $1200 price was a special price negotiated with the insurance company - if a patient didn't have insurance and paid cash, it was about $4000 for the study!

Re: How Much Did Your Sleep Study Cost?
Here in NJ...My split night sleep study cost $8,485.00 and insurance paid $4,335.00 of which my portion was $650.00 I feel ripped off. I am suppose to go back because they were unable to titrate the machine in the available time. I was woken at 5am to leave soon after.
Re: How Much Did Your Sleep Study Cost?
This poll did not distinguish between a home and in-patient/center study. My home study was billed at $350, but insurance paid for all if it after a contractual reduction.
