Leaking Mirage Liberty

Post by AThom10731 » Mon Sep 13, 2010 8:48 pm

I have been using the Mirage liberty face mask since March '09 and the leakage around my nose is driving me crazy!!

Have tried other full face masks but feel claustrophobic. I breathe through my mouth almost all of the time.

I have tried Different size nasal pillows but mask still leaks.
Tried CPAP Pillow - mask still leaks.
Tightening and loosening my headgear - mask still leaks.

Advil PM and my trusty IPod are my best friends these days. Ear plugs were helpful, too but the leaks cannot be a good thing. The Advil helps me sleep as I have recently had two open rotator cuff surgeries.

I feel as though the CPAP is just not for me. My neurologist suggested I see an orthodontist. I saw the orthodontist and she uses an orthodontal appliance and has been very successful with it but it would be 1K out of pocket as my insurance does not cover the appliance.

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

That was/is my problem with the Liberty...can't make it stop leaking, even with tweaks. I wear the RespCare Hybrid: comes with 3 sizes of oral cushion, 3 sizes of pillows that can be adjusted to 2 heights.

The Mirage Liberty is similar in design to the Innomed Hybrid mask. If you search the forum for hybrid fixes, you should find a bunch of ideas you can use to stabilize the nasal pillows. They involve using things like the legs of ladies' tights and pony tail holders.

I tie a shoelace around my head to stabilize the nasal pillows. I have (though not recently) used the Lansinoh cream also to improve the seal. I also use a buckwheat hull pillow so that I can mold a little gulley so that the pillow is not touching my mask at all and pushing it out of place.

Are you leaking from the mouthpiece or the nasal pillows?
