Hey, I just found this on cpap.com... thought others might find it intersting as well.

Interesting chart... but I've concluded from the postings on this forum that the relative noise of different interfaces is more than just the Db level. Many people are adversely affected by the particular tone of various interfaces or the variation in tone and volume through out the breathing cycle.

Geocom,
I don't doubt that is quieter than the rest... My comments were in regard to the fact that the other masks all seem to be in a rather tight group and that the opinions expressed by many on this forum does not reflect that level of similarity in their perception of the noise level.
To what do you account the low noise level of the SomnoPlus... I'm curious.

Wading,
With the SomnoPlus, air escapes through slots around the entire circumference of the hard plastic connecting piece. I think it's a combination of the shape of the exit holes and the fact that escaping air has more space to escape.
(Dang, that was a bad explanation).

Best mask I've ever owned...

Somno Plus. A mask producing very low noise. I bet this company has some excellent acoustical engineers on staff.
I think that European based company also produces an AutoPAP based on SONAR like technology instead of the usual air-flow and snore sensors. Those would be highly skilled acoustical engineers that might produce a mask like the one you see on the graph. They would also have great incentive to design a mask that injected noise into their AutoPAP's sonographic sensors. Less mask noise amounts to less distortion while attempting to map the human airway throughout the night.
Bet those accoustically proficient engineers have verrry nice home stereos too!

Wading,
I found something on the SomnoPlus that visually shows what i tried to explain about the quietness of it in my previous post:

I checked out the comparison chart and guess what, the Hans Rudolph wasn't even listed on the comparison chart.
I would like to see where the Hans Rudolph would be on the chart.
My L/S is 0.0L/S most of the time.

My SomnoPlus is also VERY quiet. The exhaust flow is gentle and diffused ... can't even make it over to my DH's side. Their US site http://www.somnotech.com seems to be changing host sites at the moment, but they had a teaser for a new mask that will soon be "The Gold Standard" for CPAP masks (or something like that). I think it is scheduled to be released in January.
