Post by roster » Thu Sep 09, 2010 3:05 pm

Scientists unveiled the latest weapon in the battle against Alzheimer's disease yesterday – a humble vitamin.
Researchers from the University of Oxford have found that taking tablets of three B vitamins every day slows the brain shrinkage that happens with age, causing early signs of dementia such as memory loss.

Uh, not quite so fast. According to this article:

"This is a drug, not a vitamin intervention," she said.

The pills, called "TrioBe Plus" contained around 300 times the recommended daily intake of B12, four times daily advised folate levels and 15 times the recommended amount of B6."

You can read the article HERE.

Gee! Haw! Whoa Mule!

That "300" jumped out at you did it not? A little basic math is needed. The RDA for B12 is tiny, so 300 times tiny = not large.

TrioBe Plus only contains 500 mcg of B12. That is one-half of a mg. Still a level well within the safety limits.

Here is a discussion about TrioBe Plus http://www.anh-europe.org/news/pharma-g ... n-revealed

My Dad was treated this way a long time ago. massive B complex and folic acid. Personnly I don't think it did anything for him to be honest. but at least there is a study now that proves there needs to be more study

Well, I'll tell you what, my wife is now in her fourth year of Alzheimer's and is mid-stage 6. I am her sole caregiver, and do everything in my power to make what little "life" she has enjoyable.

None of the drugs or massive supplements have helped her one iota, and I sure as hell am not jumping on this bandwagon, or any others that are sure to come along in the future.

I just want it to be over...for her sake and mine.

P.S., I've heard that a diet of pork rinds and apples will assure that you'll live to be 100. And yeah, I know...more studies are needed.
