My new case arrived at last

Post by Bearcat42 » Thu Sep 09, 2010 10:53 pm

After much deliberation following a previous post concerning the bag for the PR System one I ordered a Pelican case which finally got here today.
I liked it as soon as I got it out of the box. This thing is military and NATO approved and is the largest allowable carry-on by the TSA. It is dust proof, water proof and falls just short of indestructible. Haha!
I got the 1500 in black with wheels and an extension handle and it came with pick and pluck foam in the case and convoluted foam in the lid. Most people probably wouldnt need something like this but I have to travel so much in my big truck that I really needed something that would protect my machine from bouncing around in a side box and the weather as well.
This box will do everything I need it to do and it carries my machine, user manuals, power supply, hose, mask, papcap, and my pur-sleep pouch.

As a matter of interest, having been in the business of shipping delicate electronics for some time, it is worthwhile noting that while a Pelican case will indeed offer protection to its contents against direct force trauma, dust, dirt and moisture..... IT ONLY OFFERS MINIMAL PROTECTION against being banged around. In other words, you can put a light bulb inside the case and reasonably expect that the glass will not break as it is protected; but do not reasonably expect that the Pelican case is going to increase the protection offered to the FILAMENT of the bulb which will still get shaken about and suffer the effects of high g forces and sudden stops.

In the flying business they often do post-mortems on pilots and passengers who do not have a scratch on them but die in the crash nontheless; they have grave internal injuries... Aortas torn from the heart, massive internal bleeding, etc. It's not the crash that killed them but rather the sudden stop at the end.

I am not offering or suggesting a solution but just want all to be aware that a Pelican case is not the ultimate solution to getting banged around, although if I have a choice of cases in which to carry electronics or firearms, it is usually a Pelican Case. I try to mitigate the sudden stops by adding in some additional VERY soft foam or bubble wrap that will cushion any blows/sudden stops. And at least I am comfy in knowing that the case isn't going to fall apart, get squished, permit water to enter, permit dirt or dust to enter, etc. Pelican makes a superb product.... just remember what you are carrying and handle it accordingly.

If you know a musician or a band... they use lots of Pelican cases. Ask them about how comfortable they would be with a drop test.

BTW, when shopping around for Pelican cases, there are a few online suppliers that have incredible pricing (wish I could think of names). Shop around online - there are some GREAT deals out there. And I don't think there are very many cases in that price range that come anywhere near the protection of a Pelican case. Lots of law enforcement use Pelican cases for carrying sensitive rifles and so on.

Well I actually got mine from Ebay for around $136 with free shipping. The store name was "Buy.com". The pick and pluck foam was easy to form to my equipment and with a little spray adhesive everything stays where it should. These cases come with a lifetime warranty as well which I think makes it a good buy. Like I mentioned earlier, most CPAP users wouldnt have the need for something as extreme as a Pelican case but for those who travel alot or go camping or even fly then it might be worth it. What is nice is that you could check this thing in at the airport and not worry about the contents too much or carry it on the plane with you. The model I got was the 1510, not the 1500 I mentioned before. Sorry.
