The masks from heck

Post by sjb46 » Thu Sep 09, 2010 10:30 am

I hate to be such a CB but I am still having mask issues. Switched from a full face silicon mask(Phillips) to a gel full face (Phillips). I am using RemZzz liners and it still doesn't help. I have a permanent dent on the bridge of my nose which really bothers me since I have had several sinus surgeries (and still I snored). I have permanent creases under my eyes and on my cheeks and forehead. I have washed, soaked, and air dried and am now ready to throw the whole thing in the septic tank. I have an appointment on Monday with another supplier and hopefully THEY can come with some solutions.
Thanks for giving me a place to vent!!!!

Vent away! But please don't throw your stuff in the septic system. I'm pretty sure it's not biodegradable and you might have it come back to you, and not in a good way.

I was having the same problem with my ultra mirage (Res Med) mask. I had to tighten the mask so tight to prevent leakage from around the cheek area, that I wore a huge blister on my nose. I retuned the mask for a Mirage Liberty. Now I see the the Ultra Mirage has a "shallow-size" mask for folks with large bridges. I am waiting for a store to get them in stock so I can try it on. You may want to also try the Ultra Mirage - shallow size.

Vent away, that's why we are all here. If we can help each other out, we have done a good deed for the day.
Good Luck

I just got a new Sleepweaver mask, which is all fabric. I'll be using it for the first time tonight. It might be worth looking in to for you. My DME was able to give me one free (covered by insurance.)

Hi everyone. I have been using a Sleepweaver mask for approximately 3 months now. I am not that impressed with it. It seems to have issues with sealing, maybe because it's one size fits all. If you lay flat on your back it's fine, but if you move alot in your sleep, like I do, the darn thing will wake you up from the wisteling noise it makes when the seal is broken. Also when you clean it, be sure to use the proper tape, I've had it come apart while in use.

I don't understand how anyone gets by with one mask. I switch a lot. Some nights I like a full faced and if my face hurts I use a nasal or pillow. I think rotating masks works great. That gives your face time to heal.

Have you tried a special cpap bed pillow? PapPillow, SleepPapPillow, Regeneris or a memory foam contour pillow might work. You can do a Search here for lots of info.
