IntelliPAP auto firmware upgrade
Re: IntelliPAP auto firmware upgrade
Just got an email that my IntelliPAP Auto with Smartflex machine was shipped and will arrive on Thursday...... You can't see me, but I am dancing!!
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

This is great news! I hope that many people find this useful. Even though this machine will not work-long-term for me, it certainly works short-term, and I just used it 4 nights while camping. I might just do the firmware upgrade because I bet some therapy algorithms have been tweaked.

Now the next question will be, how to determine optimum settings for SmartFlex, for those of us who adjust our own settings.

Re: IntelliPAP auto firmware upgrade
Wow - that was quick. I used the cable that I received from cpap.com - and - installed the firmware update. I do have smart-flex. There is a new menu under the clinical menu -
new features - delay pressure - you can set the pressure level now
after the hourmeter display, the next right arrow gets you the smartflex menu
you can set smartflex - 1, 2 or 3 or off
smartflex mode: delay-only or fulltime
smartflex IRnd: 0 - 5 -
smartflext ERnd: 0 - 5
So, I get the first two options
But what do you think delay-only means vs full-time?
and then what do you think IRnd - levels 0 - 5 and ERnd 0 -5 mean?
I'm excited about the feature. It was the only thing I regretted about buying this out of pocket - that it didn't have this feature.
And, I'm absolutely over the moon that the firmware was available for free to already purchased machines - woot!
So, I just tried the mask - and - it's a bit odd feeling now - but on the display as you're breathing in the pressure goes up (displays the number), and as you breathe out the pressure drops, when you stop breathing out, the pressure starts back up.

Re: IntelliPAP auto firmware upgrade
Delay only means that the SmartFlex feature will operate only during the pressure ramp delay period - full time means SmartFlex will be enabled through-out the entire therapy session.
iRND stands for inspiratory rounding and eRND stands for expiratory rounding. This feature of SmartFlex is a DeVilbiss patented technology called Flow Rounding and has been featured on DeVilbiss Bilevel S devices for years. Flow Rounding allows you to customize pressure transitions into and out of inspiratory and expiratory pressure. The higher you set the number, the smoother the pressure waveform becomes.
I'll be interested to hear your feedback on SmartFlex

Re: IntelliPAP auto firmware upgrade
Thank you for the additional info. I was able to wear a nasal pillow mask for a while last night. I've not been able to wear them because it's too hard to breath out against the pressure. I did switch to my full face mask later on. I was much more comfortable - it felt more natural. The mask did a little bit of suction action w/ each breath as it filled w/ air on the inspiration and then got a bit looser on exhalation. I was able to wear it for 7.2 hours last night - a record.

That's great news! What do you think of SmartFlex?
Re: IntelliPAP auto firmware upgrade
I am certain the smart-flex allowed me to wear the mask that long - every other night, I've ripped the mask off at least once - I have only slept a few hours at a stretch. It was much more comfortable to breathe out. I set it at 3 and it felt much more natural. I've been fighting claustrophobia - or just really being overwhelmed at the amount of air that is being blown at me and feeling panicky. The most difficult part has been the exhalations. I'm not dreading putting on the mask tonight.

I would suggest you explore the iFlx and eFlx settings as well - you will notice very little pressure change, and therefore possibly less claustrophobia, when both of these are at a setting of 5.

Here's the download page:

Make sure you get the correct version for your model. Also take note that you need a special cable to connect your APAP to the PC.
Also be aware that a failed firmware update may leave your machine inoperable. The new firmware overwrites the old so if the update is not successful, you can be left with no operable firmware at all. At that point it's unlikely that anyone outside of the factory can repair it.

Re: IntelliPAP auto firmware upgrade
This is great news!!! However, I am in Asia at the moment. I can find a USB to Serial DB9 connector/cable. However, I am unsure what sort of cable I can use to connect from the DB9 to my IntelliPAP Auto. Any ideas?
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

You need the custom cable as noted below.pat200 wrote:This is great news!!! However, I am in Asia at the moment. I can find a USB to Serial DB9 connector/cable. However, I am unsure what sort of cable I can use to connect from the DB9 to my IntelliPAP Auto. Any ideas?

Hmm, it has been a long time since I dealt with such cables. I thought the db9 had a rectangle type shape not round . My IntelliPAP has a round port.SleeplessInNyack wrote:The IntelliPAP has a DB9 port on the back. If you have the data module you won't see it because the module is plugged into it. You need to carefully remove the data module to expose the DB9 port.pat200 wrote:This is great news!!! However, I am in Asia at the moment. I can find a USB to Serial DB9 connector/cable.
