PR System One REMstar Auto CPAP Machine Manual?

Post by albill » Mon Sep 06, 2010 11:13 pm

I've been using an S8 Autoset II since December. My sleep doctor at Stanford thinks either the specific machine I own is not working write or the S8 simply doesn't detect my breathing event correctly. This is because whatever range we set it to (initially, 9 to 14 and I've moved it up to 13.4 to 16 on suggest from doctor and sleep study), the machines stays at the minimum setting and only goes up .2 or .4 on occasion. It never goes up the full range even though it detects my RDI is over 5. The graph of my pressure range is almost completely flat.

Because of this, my doc is having my take the machine in to be examined and wants me to at least temporarily switch to a Philips Respironics auto-pap machine since maybe the problem is that the S8 in general doesn't detect my events.

If I go do this, I need to get a manual to change my settings. My doctor was overridden by his superior so my official prescription pressure range is 9 to 15 on paper. According to my last sleep study, it should probably be 15 to 19 but the supervising doctor didn't want to change it before I tried another machine. I'm sleeping at 13.4 to 16 now so I want to change my settings on the new machine so I'm not down around 9 when I go to bed.

Does anyone have a PR System One REMstar Auto CPAP Machine manual?

The S8 AutoSet II is not very agressive at pressures over 10 in order to avoid inducing central apneas. (Unlike the S9 AutoSet, it cannot differentiate obstructive apneas from central apneas. Above 10 it does not respond to apneas, only to snores and flow limitation. I, too, have found that the S8 AutoSet II does not increase pressure enough to bring my AHI (or RDI) down to acceptable levels. I have been using the software and increasing my minimum pressure gradually and have recently seen some results. I now have my minimum pressure all the way up to 17.
