Melatonin and weight gain

Post by grumpygirl » Thu Sep 02, 2010 12:27 pm

Hello to everyone!! I have been taking a very small dose of Melatonin every night now for almost a week and I have noticed an increase in my weight by about 4-5 lbs. I never gain that much weight and the only thing I have done differently is the Melatonin. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just getting "fat and lazy"!! The melatonin does help with sleep somewhat but if I take a full 1mg. I find that I am groggy and out of sorts the next day. I usually take just 300 mcg. about 45 min. before bedtime. I find it does help me fall asleep and oddly enough if I do wake up at night I can usually go back to sleep without too much trouble-something that has not happend for some time. Any thoughts on the weight gain??? Thanks-GG

I've been taking 3mg nightly for 2 years with no noticable weight gain.

I take 300 - 600 mcg. every night and have not noticed any weight gain (on it for 1 month now).

I was taking Melatonin nightly and putting on tons of weight which stopped as soon as I stopped the Melatonin. I attribute the weight gain, without a doubt, to the peanut butter and toast taken with the Melatonin just before bedtime.

I haven't noticed any weight gain from the melatonin (but I did have horrible problems with BC pills, the weight gain only started after more than 4 months after starting them).
