Frustrated

Post by saskman » Sun Aug 29, 2010 1:23 am

Well I have been on therapy for a while now, and just recently I have been taking my mask off in my sleep I wake with the air blowing in my eyes, then I attempt to put the mask back on and it feels like there is something in a nostril that is fluttering with each breath. Should i have a mask instead of the pillows?

I am new to the whole "PAP" experience, but from reading these forums I can say that most everyone here will tell you that choosing a good mask that works well for YOU is probably the hardest thing. Try different masks, different STYLES of masks, and keep trying until you find what works for YOU!

The most important thing...... KEEP AT IT! DON'T GIVE UP! Your health depends on it..... Good luck!

Jeff

saskman, how long is "awhile?" If it's just a few days, you might need to look at using a different mask. If it's been a few months, you might need to replace the pillows. Mask choice is very personal and can be tricky. Many of us have had to try numerous masks to get the best one, and quite a few people alternate between two or three for various reasons. Keep at it, keep asking questions; we'll help you make this work!

it sounds like youre not getting a good seal on your pillows presently, so you may need to adjust your straps a wee bit, I hear this is common,
that the strap stretches a bit very quickly... so it starts the first few days great, then they get loose..

or....
your pillows may need replacing from wear, and the soft ones lose their shape more quickly
I hear..

or you have wrong size pillows?

Did you ever obtain a decent seal with that mask? If yes, and if the problem in getting a good seal is a recent development, then changing the size of the pillow may not be a solution. Your user-info indicates that you are using a Resmed Swift LT. Others on this board have indicated that the nasal pillows for that mask are sometimes very short-lived. In other words, you may need a new nasal pillow of the same size you've been using; a larger pillow won't help.

Since you have been using this mask for only a month, I'd suggest going back to your DME and get them to help you find a solution. They were well paid for this service when they were paid all that money for the equipment!
I'm workin' on it.

DME is the Durable Medical Equipmemt provider.

It is the company/business from which you got your cpap machine and initial startup equipment.

There are several different ones here in Ontario. I don't know any of the ones in Saskatchewan.

I have had that a couple times with this mask. It makes me feel like I need to blow my nose. The DME accidentally gave me a smaller pillow and that caused leaks and fluttered. The other times I had this happen were when I put on my mask while the machine is running. I found it didn't seat correctly so I turn off the machine, readjust the mask, turne it on again and that fixes it. I have two pillows that I alternate from night to night and just replaced one because it was starting to leak after only a month. Luckally insurance pays for two a month .
