anyone have sizing issues with the mirage softgel mask?

Post by andrewjs18 » Fri Aug 27, 2010 11:16 pm

hello all,

anyone else have sizing issues with the softgel mask from resmed?

basically, with all my other masks, which have been all respironics if I recall correctly, I'd wear a size small. When I first tried the softgel mask, I ordered a size small and it was entirely too small (my nose was rubbing on the top of the mask and etc). Now, after the 3 months lapsed where my insurance would cover the costs on a new mask, I was able to order a new mask. I ordered a size medium and it feels like I'm suffocating when I wear the mask.

this is the mask I'm currently wearing until I can figure out what's going on with the softgel mask

the bottom half of the nasal width seems much larger than even a size medium softgel mask.

I thought I saw a fitment guide for the softgel mask, but now I can't seem to find it

anyone with suggestions, tips, links, etc?

much appreciated,
Andrew

I went to get a new mask this monday, I was fitted for the softgel.

The template said I wore a medium, it leaked like a whale's blow hole at the bottom on both sides..

the RT was quite surprised, he thought a medium should fit me, and I said... why dont we try a large?

so I got the large, and no blow hole leaks.. dont know if that is what you are talking about, but

that was my experience this week.

Here are ResMed's mask fitting templates. Since the SoftGel uses the same frame as the Activa, I would think that the Activa template is the one you want.

Make sure you print it full size. You can also order the templates from ResMed.

Edited to add missing link.

I don't see any links in your post.

I just spent my first night with my new Softgel in a large size. My leak rate went down 15 points from the Softgel medium size. That's with using a cotton T-Shirt gasket, which has always increased my leak rate.

I think I've found a winner here.
