Just getting enlightened...new S9 user

Post by lnevo » Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:49 pm

Hi all,

I just started using the Resmed S9 Autoset machine two nights ago and love it! The APAP system and EPR make therapy so much more comfortabl!

Anyway, now that I actually get some data about my apnea, I'm curious if I should be looking to fine tune anything or if I'm where I should be.

My original S7 was set to 10. So far my avg pressure both nights was 9.6
The first night I had the pressure set 6-10 and my AHI was 2.5
Last night i had my pressure set to 6-12 and my AHI was 1.5
EPR is set to 3.

Both nights have been very comfortable (what a difference from straight CPAP!) and I would have slept straight through if not for some rainout at 5 this morning. I ordered a tube wrap to hopefully help. Is the ClimateLine hose worth the investment?

I'm working on getting Rescan setup, but in the meantime, I'm curious if my settings are good enough for now or if I should be tweaking anything else? From what I have read on here so far, a 1.5 AHI is pretty good.

Thanks in advance for any input!
Lee

I'm sort of new to all this and haven't tried adjusting settings to lower my AHI numbers. (consistently under 4 and once as low as 1). But I do have the climateline hose and have never had rainout. My pressure is set at 4-7 with EPR set at 3.

Go for the Climate Hose. I have not experienced ay rainout. Good luck with your S9. Brett

The pressure reading on your lcd is the 95 percentile. So, 6 may be a little low, since your EPR of 3 is reducing your exhale from 6 to 4 (the lowest it will go). A common starting range is 2 below your titrated pressure, 2-3 above it. Or, you could try EPR of 2 or 1 and see if that feels ok to you.

However your AHI is looking good, and I have found that for me, minor changes may or may not make much difference.

Yes, I love the Climate Line hose, since I'm in a dry climate in the winter. Both S9 hoses have been reported as being fragile at the end connector, and I have reinforced mine with this heat-resistant tape: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001HE ... ss_product

Your numbers look great... so no real need to tweak unless you want to. On the climateline, yes, I would reiterate that it is well worth it. I think Resmed should make it standard since it is really the key feature to the S9. No issues with fragility here... no need for hose covers, etc. for me.

You sound like you are doing great on this machine.

Remember, one night does not a trend make. Give yourself a week at these settings and see how you feel.

Data is helpful so you have all the info you need in case you think you might want to make any changes (I don't see any immediate reason to do so).

If you do later decide to make changes, make ONE change and let it ride for several days before judging whether you want to make additional changes. This will help you identify what works, and what doesn't.

As long as you're feeling well, it's good

Lee, do you really new any humidification ? Try the unit without it. I've never used it and it feels fine.

Sounds like you're doing great! Your AHI is better than just "pretty" good. That nice low AHI is very good.

Thanks all for the replies. 3rd night and another AHI of 1.5. I'm going to try and tighten up the range and have it set right now for 7-12 to see if how it affects my numbers.

I ordered a ClimateLline hose and hopefully will get it next week. For now I've lowered the humidity to 2.0 and had no issue last night...now if only the baby hadn't woken up at 3 and 6 I might have gotten a full nights sleep...

Still love the machine, was a great investment!

Lee

Update: So, had some leakage issues and wife said I was snoring and AHI was at 3.1. Not sure if it was just bad luck with the mask or the change in pressure. I put it back to 6 on the low range for now. Let's see how it goes.
