I started out with basically no info from the doctor
I started out with basically no info from the doctor
When I got my call after my first sleep study from the nurse saying I did have had apnea episodes and needed to schedule a titration study, I was in the car. I remember she did rattle off some numbers, but they meant nothing to me and of course I couldn't write anything down.
Because of this wonderful board, I'm learning a lot. I want to get the software and start tracking my progress. If I talk to my doctor or nurse, I want to ask them my starting numbers. What exactly am I asking for? I know nothing- from what my resuls were to what pressure I have. How can I ask them with sounding like I know what I'm talking about and getting all the info I need from them?
I'm only on day 5 and I know i have a large learning curve. What software would I need to get with my machine? I'm guessing EncoreViewer 2.0? My husband has had a machine for 10 years but has not been proactive or even followed by a doctor since his original sleep study (I'm changing that). If he gets a new machine like mine, can we use the same software?
Thanks,
Erika

Re: I started out with basically no info from the doctor
Don't ask for numbers, get a copy of the full report including summary, dictated doctor's notes, and the data pages showing your 'numbers.' You are entitled to this report...it is YOURS. Once you have that in hand, you can provide us with the various report data to help you.
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

erika, welcome to the forum, and congratulations for taking charge of your health! In addition to your sleep study results, get your prescription also. Your doctor is required by law to provide it to you if you ask for it. If the medical people try to question why you want one, tell them you need it for when you travel, in case you need to acquire supplies quickly in a strange place. This is, in fact, an excellent reason to have your prescription; you'd be amazed at how many folks need to replace a mask or hose while they're on a trip.

Re: I started out with basically no info from the doctor
Thank you so much. It didn't even register that I could ask for my records! Excellent.
I do have a copy of the physician order/letter of medical necessity from the DME. It is signed by my doctor.
OSD is checked- which is no surprise. It says CPAP 10 cwd. I'm assuming this is the pressure?
Is the software program I use dependent on what machine I have? Am I correct in my first post of what I need? (can't remember what I have said and I'm on my phone)

Yes, the software is dependent on the machine. The PR S1's (and any of the other Philips Respironics Remstar Machines) need Encore Viewer. 2.0 works with all of them--you must have 2.0 for the System Ones, and you can have up to five users (I think) sharing the software on the same computer. Your husband is overdue for a new machine, and if you both have the same kind it will make life easier for both of you. Keep his old machine (if it's still working) for a backup or if one of you travels (if both travel, you both will need your machines).

Erika you want to ask for a copy of your Sleep Study results, also called PSG. Search for posts by Slinky which give more info about getting the copies. You also want a copy of your prescription.erika wrote:When I got my call after my first sleep study from the nurse saying I did have had apnea episodes and needed to schedule a titration study, I was in the car. I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Erica,
If you spend some more time on this board, you will not only get your husband's therapy whipped into shape, but
you will be able to find out everything YOU ever wanted to know about your therapy, as well as help other" deer in the headlights" new comers..
When you research the causes, the symptoms, looking back you will be amazed!
Now the treatment.. the road to wellness, its a bit curvey at times, but its one to stay on, that is for sure..
I remember when I landed here, I did think AHI was tuna, and I LOVE tuna! As a matter of fact, that is what my husband calls it..
How was your "tuna" this morning dear?
You ahi stands for apnea, hyponea index.. You will know this number like your bra size soon!
Okay, get ready for your learning adventure.. read the cpap wiki and the cpap definitions, and the newbie stuff..
Welcome!
elena

Re: I started out with basically no info from the doctor
Hello
I had simular thing happen with the sleep doctor mind sounds like your experience! I had my test last April. I could use the excuse that he combin a couple things with the apt. and I dont feel I got full attention of the doctor when it came to the sleep study I had.
I have what they handed me as the records... another friend received more pages then I did.
Weird... I understand how you feel is all.
