First night with new mask, better sleep

Post by PJ the DJ » Thu Aug 19, 2010 11:13 am

I got rid of my sad face avatar because last night I got six hours sleep with my new mask so things are definitely looking up.

I didn't know how I would adjust to nasal pillows, following the use of the Quattro, but last night the pillows weren't an issue. After a minute of some squeaking/whistling, the sounds disappeared, plus they felt ok so I hardly noticed them.

As with the Quattro, I did find myself adjusting the mask very tightly to avoid leaks, probably too tightly, so I will keep working on that.

I slept for three hours, woke up for about 20 minutes, then got another three hours in. For me that it is very good considering pre CPAP I would get five hours of sleep at the most.

Changing the mask, rather than giving up on CPAP is definitely the way to go for anyone having problems. As a CPAP newbie, I have a lot to learn.

Also, a word about Apria. On this board the company is practically villainized, and I don't think that's totally fair. In Connecticut, my DME is Gary, and he is really really good. At our initial visit, he gave me more information about my sleep study results than my doctor did. He was extremely patient with me through the mask selection process, and though he did encourage me initially to look at the Liberty mask, at the time I decided to go with the Quattro, no fault of his. When the hospital sleep specialist called him about getting a new mask, it arrived at my home within three business days, which was pretty efficient.

Thanks everyone for your input, it's been helpful!

Hi PJ

Good to read your therapy is starting well.

Everybody and everything gets villainized at some time or another by someone or other on this Forum. I heard that you do not get full membership until you yourself have been villainized, and that you yourself have villainized someone else.

Genuine grievances do not count. The villainization must be completely without cause, and then you must totally ignore any objections to what you have posted, and pretend the villainization never happened.

You can take this as a villainization of yourself, after all, fancy joining a Forum without knowing the rules about villainization.

And as you have never heard of me, you can villainize me back, then pretend you never villainized me, and Bob's your Uncle, you are a full member of this very special Forum.

cheers

PJ,

This sounds great. I'll take 3 hours of good sleep over any amount of nasty OSA sleep any day of the week. BTW, one thing that helps a lot is Lanisoh. You can find it in the little purple tube in the baby products isle of our grocery store or drug store. Put a little on the nasal pillows or the rim of your nares, and you will get a better seal with less leaks.
