ive taken all of the advice....

Post by Junaid » Wed Aug 18, 2010 1:07 am

Ive taken all of the advice ive received in this forum but alas! still no good result. IM TIRED! SO SO SO TIRED!

now im searching for other contirbutors...i suffer from panic/anxiety attacks...could that be the cause?
i have high prolactin levels...could that be the cause?

i dont take caffeine or sugar, no leaks, 100% compliant, blood tests results are fine, tried apap -wide and narrow range, tried cpap, went for second mslt and titration-all is fine, switched between masks- nasalpillow and ffm, etc etc.

im determined to get to the bottom of this

You must be very frustrated, it is a credit to you that you are trying so very hard to figure this out..

dont give up..

I had a friend who had problem.. she went to many doctors, they couldnt figure out what was causing her problem.....

She turned over every stone, except the one which was a normal part of her daily routine.. medications..
rare reported side effects of medications..

When she was medication free, she was able to see what was causing her symptoms to worsen..

just a thought.. .. sometimes you need a bright white blank canvas..... a fresh clean starting point..
and then go from there to paint your masterpiece of wellness..

Junaid - can't remember now, but have you seen an endocrinologist? Is that who told you about high prolactin levels?

Well if you have a pituitary tumor, are there plans to remove it, or what?

no, the doctors only remove it if the meds dont work to reduce it--the meds are working and my levels have come down but it is chronic meds so i cant stop taking it

Well, you can certainly try the valsalva maneuver to help with the anxiety/panic, especially when you are trying to get to sleep. Take a deep breath and hold it, then with your mouth and nose closed try to exhale to create some additional pressure in your chest. Then relax and release your breath slowly. See if that doesn't help. I bet it will.

I would have to be in very bad shape before I would take an antipsychotic drug. Here in the States, if you look at a doctor funny, you will end up with a prescription so he can get you out of the office and collect your insurance money.

There are so damn many people prescribed antipsychotic drugs to treat symptoms while the underlying cause is left untreated. Antipsychotic drugs are quite ineffective and they are often a horrible partner to sleep apnea.

I would do a lot of other things first and consider the drugs a very last resort. Your emotional problems are very likely caused by your physical problems, so you need to put 95% of your effort on resolving the physical problems.

What about oximetry studies? I think for sleep apnea patients investment in a recording pulse-oximeter has a good chance of payoff.

Isn't it hell to feel like crap all the time? I went through it and can empathize with what you are feeling.

I am glad you are sticking with the forum and trying to get to the bottom of your problems.

If you have more than one contributor to your symptoms, like OSA and med side effects, it could explain having symptoms before the med and after using cpap.

In a prior thread you mentioned using cabergoline for your limb movements. Since it is also used for treating prolactin levels, I wasn't sure if you are using it for both, and on a low dose or what. As with other ergot-based dopamine agonists, one needs to be aware of the potential side effects. What specifically did your recent tests say about your limb movements?

Have a serious talk with your doctor about the quality of your life, and tell them the meds you were given quite possibly are
ruining your life.. and perhaps they can step you down off them for a bit, to see if you improve.. then find something that wont
make you feel like your half dead.. that is NOT living.. ..

keep pushing until you find a way to feel like your old self again..

If this doc wont do it, find another one who will help you get your life back..

The only way to find out if its the meds is to stop them for a bit, with your doctors guidance. If you are back to normal, then its clear
what it was, and another med has to be found, or the dosage changed, or whatever.. but keep letting them know that you refuse to go on
feeling THAT way..

OSA can cause panic attacks, it causes panic attacks while you are sleeping in many people, and these spill over during the day sometimes..
so it could be quite possible once you feel better on the cpap, you wont have panic attacks anymore at all..
