Newbie, Introducing Myself

Post by maskhead » Tue Aug 17, 2010 1:10 pm

Hi folks. I've been reading posts for the past few days and thought it was time to introduce myself. I've been using CPAP with a Quattro FFM for about 4 months now. I've had improved sleep and mood and no migraines (yeah!). I guess I've adjusted pretty well but am still learning. From reading posts I discovered that its possible to sleep on one's side with a FFM, so I tinkered with the
headgear adjustment and have had 2 nights with some side sleeping without mask leaks. I'm going to order a CPAP pillow that will allow me to sleep both on my back and side. Do any of you have strong recommendations or is it very individual like the masks?

Some information on me: I was told that I had very mild apnea in REM only with bad oxygen desaturation, down to 82. It was the O2 that convinced me to try the CPAP. I don't have any more data. Will try to get the sleep and titration studies data from my doc. It sounds like it would be very useful. My machine, the Respironics Remstar Pro, doesn't have any way for me to read data. I've sent
the data card into my DME a few times. Is there any thing I can get to read the data, short of a different machine?
All in all I guess I'm doing fairly well. I sure do appreciate this forum and all your input.

In your post you say you have a Respironics Remstar Pro, but in your signatrure equipment list you say you have a Plus. These are two very different machines. Th Pro is fully data capable, whereas the Plus is not. Take a careful look at the machine to get the correct product name, and folks can respond better.

O.K. I checked the machine. It is a Respironics Remstar Pro. I don't think I saw that exact model on the list. How do I access the data? There is a little 1 " square data card, but I don't know how to read it.
Thanks for responding.

To read the card you need the software. You can buy the software, (Encore Viewer 2.0) at cpap.com. It costs $99. Any memory card reader will read it, if you have the software. I use the card reader that is built into my printer.

A PR System One Pro will give you full data.

I sleep on my tummy and sides using a very basic three-inch polyester-filled pillow. My head is at the edge so the mask is protruding out over the side of the pillow.

On the other hand, you might want to order three different $75 "CPAP" masks to take up room in your closets. I did.

You should know that saying "System One" will let people know it is the newest Remstar Pro as there are many older models too.
