new resmed mask

Post by slacker361 » Thu Aug 12, 2010 8:28 am

I got the new resmed mask , comfort gel i think it the name, i liked it at first, no leaks comfortable, but now, the numbers are climbing, i think it is where the vent is positioned, i n my opinion it takes away from the pressure that you need when the airway collapses, has anybody else had this problem? have you changed the settings on your machine to compensate for this?

Both the mask and CPAP machine are designed so that the proper pressure is maintained regardless of the mask venting. Some masks vent more air than others, but the machine can keep up with that flow and still maintain the set pressure.

For reasons that I don't quite understand, some people do find that they need to adjust their pressure slightly when they change masks. So, you might try to increase your pressure a bit for a few nights and see if your AHI settles down.

ok so i tried the new mask again last night. looked at my results, not bad, but I had a 10.00l/m leak. and yet the mask didnot leak at all, it is the vent that is pushing that much air out of the mask. should the s8 elite 2 be set different for the new softgel

Are you using the Comfort Gel or the Softgel? The Comfort Gel has been around for a long time and is one of the most popular nasal mask.
I used this mask for over a year before I switched to a FF mask. I had no problems with this mask. The vent has to expell lots of air to rid the mask of CO2.

sorry it is the new one out the soft gel, i use the soft gel for the last seven years, and get a 0 leak rate on the machine when using it, but the comfort gel I get a 10.00l/min leak rate3. I understand about clearing out the co2.

but if i get a zero leak on my old mask it has to be one of two things.

i need to set the s8 elite II to understand that I have this soft gel or

there is a piece missing from my mask that is giving me a large leak rate

The comfort gel mask in your profile is not a Resmed mask...??

Yes but it's still not a Resmed mask. It seems to be a respironics/Philips mask?

You've got it backwards slacker. The ComfortGel by Phillips Respironics has been out for many years. The Resmed SoftGel is the new one. Your Elite may be set at standard to calculate the leak rate. Get into the menu of your machine and set it to ACTIVA and that will give you the proper leak rate calculation. I've used both masks and for me, the SoftGel needs about .4 more pressure for the same AI and HI results (which should be the numbers you pay the most attention to scrapper).

Edit:

Check this website out to make sure you have the right size:

Interesting. I never thought one might need to change the pressure for a different mask. I am thinking about getting the new mask but I don't think I can change the settings on my machine.
