SF Chronicle Story on SA today

Post by Janknitz » Mon Aug 16, 2010 7:38 pm

The SF Chronicle ran this story about sleep apnea today. I guess it's "sexier" to talk about surgical procedures than CPAP but I notice they didn't bother to define "success" of the surgical procedures in the article or talk about the fact that most people will probably still need CPAP after these procedures.

Some of the comments are really stupid, but most are exactly what WE would respond.

I had both RF turbinate reduction and the pillar procedure using 6 pillars done 7 weeks ago and I'm glad to report good results.
And what is so stupid about the comments?

I didn't say ALL the comments were stupid, just the ones like this:
I hear meth stops snoring...
and this:
I just huff a bunch of ether until I pass out. No snoring.
and this:
why in god's name would i want to stop snoring.
if you hear me snoring, you know i'm happy
.

Stupid or not the Pillar Procedure using 6 implants and RF symnoplasty of enlarged turbinates is the ticket for a subset of individuals with no tongue collapse and an open airway. Those were my only problem areas but my AHole sleep doctor told me to use the machine or get a Trach or die!!! Up yours you ignorant moron I wanted to tell him. I went to two ENT's and I diagnosed myself after they scoped and gave me an evaluation. Then I researched a possible solution other than CPAP.
